My leadership experience
.

This leadership experience

assignment gives me a chance
to practice one of the
competencies from
Kaledoscope, which is coaching
and training skills, as well as
earning more experience on my
people savvy in general.
From the experience, I realized
that people buying into a vision,
a way of life. People treating
each other with respect, being
invested in what we do, holding
each other accountable and
taking pride in our communities

Who, what, where, when,

ect
On Saturday November 21st, I had a chance to
be a volunteer coordinator at supply booth for
exhibitors at San Diego Bay Wine and Food
Festival 2016.

My job was checking volunteer in and out, as

well as explaining and showing them their job as
a volunteers.

Moreover, when I was also in charged of the

supply booth section, I used The Cycle for my
experience to make it more effective.

The Cycle

Create a shared vision

From this experience, I had
a chance to improve some
of the competencies from
Kaleidoscope, which are

I also experienced that how

a shared vision is important
when you are in a leader
role. Envisioning exciting
possibilities and enlisting
others in a shared view of
the futureis the attribute
that most distinguishes
leaders from non-leaders.

Service Climate and

Expectations
Service Climate: is the shared of values, beliefs,
and behaviors, and etc in an organization. Each
team or each organization set different service
climate, culture. From there, service climate
helps to set the expectations.

Expectations: Setting expectations to show the

team a clear picture of the vision, and how
should we get it done in the best way. It also
helps each member stays in the same track to
get setting and archiving goals.

Develop Relationships
Relationships and collaboration are essential but
neither negates the need for strong leadership.

Effective leaders recognize the importance of

building solid relationships.

From the experience, I have learned the three

tools that would help to improve to develop
relationships, which are listening,
understanding, and acknowledging. The more
you understand the employees the easier to
develop relationships.

Teach and Train for

Service Quality
Training has become as an investment in human being since it is
considered the main pathway to form adequate human resources in
term of quality and quantity.

Teaching and training is one of the most important processes in the

cycle. Because a efficient leader usually ensures that team members
have the necessary skills and abilities to do their job and achieve the
vision.

During my leadership experience, I have learned and effective way to

improve the training skills, which is using examples for the more
effective training.

Motivate and Inspire for

Service Quality
A proficient leader know how to connect their vision
with people's individual needs, goals, and aspirations.

From there, we will have the outcomes of hard work

leads to good results, and good results lead to
attractive rewards or incentives. However, good
leaders don't rely too much on these types of power
to motivate and inspire others.
1.

Through the experience, I provided my team a vision that I was looking for to
be able to communicate with them.

2.

During the shift, I enhanced the relationship between me and each members
to get to know each other more.

3.

Then I showed and explained to the members their job, and made sure
everybody in the same track.

4.

Finally, I supported and encouraged the team to finished their job. Each of
the members also got a complementary to get in the event after the shift.
Therefore, it helped to create motivations for the team.

Provide Feedback
Giving effective feedback is one important aspect in
leadership.

In my opinion, effective feedback could be both

positive and negative. Positive feedback helps to
motivate employees, and negative one helps to correct
actions and to ensure everybody is in the same page.

By my observation from the volunteer event I did,

feedback help the team finished their job more
efficiently and more productive. Therefore, personally; I
think feedback is a key for a productive team, and
improving your leadership skills.

Leadership Philosophy
After this leadership experience assignment, I
have learned and earned for myself a great
lesson about my leadership philosophy, and
what aspects should I need for a leader.

As I understand, leadership is not only making

decision, but it is also about the skills of training,
motivating employees. That brought me a
lesson that your personal leadership philosophy
is like a compass. It will define you what you
expect, what you value, and how you act.
Formally articulating your leadership philosophy
will let others know what to expect from you as
their leader.
