Lesson Overview/
Rationale

Throughout schools students will have to read a myriad of


different text. This lesson plan will teach the students to be
able to understand, interrupt and write about any given text.
It will also help the student to be able to have critical thinking
skills. While becoming familiar with how to use Power Point,
movie maker and the internet to do research.

The Phantom of The Tollbooth by Norton Juster
Access to a computer with internet, Power point and
movie maker.

1. I will begin the lesson by giving an overview of the
things we will be doing in this lesson. For example,
giving and introduction to the book, how to write the
journals and what to expect on the quizzes. As well as,
little information on what the big project will be about
to help them start to think about what they want to do.
2. The students will have in class discussions in a large
group about the text every time a text is assigned. The
discussion will vary throughout the book but will all be
used to discuss the main ideas of the book and how
they can analyze and interrupt what is going on in the
text.
3. Students will also read the text in class together at
various points in the lesson
4. After the completion of the book, students will be
handed the rubric for the movie maker project and I
will explain in detail the project as well as, answer any
questions they may have. On the same day, students
will be assigned to work with 4 to 5 people depending
on how many students there are.

5. This movie project should be based on the book The


Phantom Tollbooth. The students could decide on if
they want to be in the video or if they want to put
together different photos and videos to make one
cohesive video that relates to the book.
6. The video the students make should be a movie trailer
for The Phantom of The Tollbooth.
The students will be assessed based on their ability to read
and comprehend the text using the skills listed in the
objectives. As well as their ability to work in groups and
collaborate creatively and academically.
