Documentary ideas.

Subject knowledgeI have been going to the gym for 4 years to maintain a healthy weight, my reasons for going is so
that I dont get to a bigger weight, for this Ive spent a lot of time going and trying to maintain a
healthy diet. This could be different for others though, people say that it improves your mood,
making you feel better about yourself which leads to being less stressed and enjoying things more.
Others need to go to sustain the same weight for sports reason, if a rugby player didnt go to the
gym and exercise regularly then they wouldnt be able to give their best performance. In my opinion
I think that it helps with your mood and achieving your goal is a great feeling.
The point of my documentary is to see the difference in peoples lives, interviewing the different
extents of people not caring about what their weight is, and people caring too much. People
watching will learn how others maintain a healthy diet, and see how the society we live in today has
changed over time to make people more concerned about the way they look. How it will go for the
nine minutes

Shots of the gym

Voice over of information on the gym, with facts and figures
Interview with an older person asking why they go to the gym
Interview with a personal trainer to see why people need to have a healthy lifestyle, and
how they maintain it
Interview with a younger person and what they feel
Doing a voiceover with shots of people walking round a fast food restaurant
Interview with a fat person and why they dont like exercise
Interview with a skinny person and why they dont like exercise
Comparing the results I found on reasons for the different peoples opinions
Speak to a nutritionist
Make a list for a healthy diet

Ask people how they feel about their weight, and why they want to change themselves
Come to a conclusion on whether going to the gym and maintaining a healthy diet is good
for everyone or not.
Shots of the gym to end with, with music to fade out.

SURVEY MONKEY AND RESULTS---

RESULTS-

From these results that I asked the young generation in my class, and from this it helps me see the
way in which healthy lifestyles are important to some, and others do not have the motivation for it.
The media affects the way in which people see themselves, and that is why some people want to be
interested in the gym and want to maintain a slimming diet. In this generation fast food is more
accessible than having a healthy meal; having grown up around this, it is said to be difficult to
maintain a healthy diet with all the temptations. And from the results 60% of people have said that
women are more likely to be interested in going to the gym and having a healthy diet, this could be
based on the high expectations pushed on young girls to look a certain way, and idolizing celebrities
to have the same body shape as they do. Some people may just not care about their weight, and
think being active is a waste of time and too much effort- after a certain amount of time people give
up going to the gym from lack of motivation. I can see the main targeted audience would be the
younger generation which seem to be more invested in their weight and eating habits than older
people, so I would have to aim my documentary at them rather than a different generation that
wouldnt want to continue to watch.

Task 3Structure- Expository documentary is the format I will be using for my documentary. This is because I
think it will be better for the audience to see other peoples opinions and views rather than seeing
just myself in the footage, feel that would be more interesting and straight forward. It will engage
the audience more and feel as though they can change their lifestyles too.
NarrativeBeginning- to open with a question, to ask why young people stress over their body image, outlining
some of the issues why people go to the gym. Showing how busy it gets and having an upbeat song
in the background which gets the attention of the audience. Why is it so pressured to look a certain

way? Why is it so stressed to maintain a skinny lifestyle>? say some figures of raising numbers for
going to the gym, and show how generations have developed.

Middle- the interview process to investigate different peoples views and lifestyles.
Ending- to conclude that body image affects certain people, and by having inflictions pushed onto
the way people live it can change the lifestyles they hold, give my opinion on why I feel that
exercising and eating well is important.

Radio Body image affects people in different ways, I am here to see the different opinions on
having a healthy lifestyle and exercising, and how generations have adapted to this expectation
Healthy lifestyle choices have taken over peoples image of themselves, see the way in which this
has happened
How does going to the gym regularly, and eating well effects the living standard of different age
groups
After creating a survey monkey to find out the best option, I got back these results from the peers.

From this I can see that the last one is too boring to publish on a radio show, no one would feel to
watch it and as my targeted audience is mainly aimed for the younger generation I have to listen to
what they feel more. The first two got the same percentage of views, by having best vote at 28%,
and good vote being at 79%. In my opinion I feel as though the first one is the best to get across
the aim objective of my task, and interests the audience to see what results I find out by the end.
Research

I will be researching how peoples lifestyle differs, and the benefits of eating well and doing
exercise
Will need to see the facts and figures of overweight people in the population, and
underweight people

Will have to research why people do and dont exercise

Will have to ask opinions on different age groups
Finding videos from the internet of different exercise programmes.

As I work in David Lloyd gym, I am surrounded by active people wanting to meet their goal, I will
be interviewing around 8 people to see their point of views. These people will include

Two gym instructors

Elderly person caring about their health
A young teenage girl
Then I will take the interview out of being in the gym and ask people why they dont care
about what they eat and how they are not affected by the pressure to look a certain
way, including
A overweight teenager
A person who is normal weight but doesnt have the motivation
An older person around 30-40
Another teenager who has major inflictions of self-image
This would then give me a range of answers to compare with each other and find out
how people get on with their daily life.

RESEARCH

Compared with women, mens participation levels drop sharply between the ages of 1624 (58% of men in this age range exercise several times a week) and 25-34 (36% of men
in this Age range exercise several times a week.
The gym is a male-dominated space that most women feel uncomfortable in. Its kind of like
trying to shop for lingerie for your girlfriend.

Eating well can also aid in the prevention of a variety of diseases and health problems, as
well as helping to maintain a healthy body weight, providing energy and promoting a general
feeling of well-being.
One of the most noticeable benefits of a balanced diet is energy. Keeping your body fueled
with the right proportions of vitamins, minerals and nutrients can give you the energy you
need to make the most of your day. Healthy carbohydrates, such as whole grains, fruits,
vegetable and legumes are slow to digest, keeping blood sugar and insulin levels on an even
keel for a steady supply of energy throughout the day. Healthy proteins are also vital for
energy levels, and can be added to the diet by eating lean meats, poultry and fish, as well as
whole grains, tofu, beans and nuts.
Some people become too obsessed with what they are consuming and how much exercise
they get done within a day.

WHAT MY TARGETTED AUDIENCE SHOULD BE DOING----

This is an article stating how social media inflicts body image

The MPs' report said pressure to look good had pushed up cosmetic surgery rates by nearly
20% since 2008
A CELBRITY INFLICTION AND HER VIEW ON BODY IMAGEHow to Live an Extraordinary Life, According To Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence thinks that in this day and age, when there are regulations on things like
sex and profanity, it should be against the law to call someone fat.

Almost 10 million women in the UK feel depressed because of the way they look, according
to new research kicking off Body Confidence Week. But campaigns to address the problem
too often miss the point
We need to talk about body image. New findings from the 2014 British Social Attitudes
survey reveal that only 63% of women aged 18-34 and 57% of women aged 35-49 are
satisfied with their appearance.

WHERE I WILL BE RECORDING MY DOCUMENTARY-

A gym instructor helps people improve their health and fitness by leading and organising
group and individual exercise programmes. An instructor will lead a range of activities or
specialise in a particular area such as keep fit and weight training.

This research will benefit my documentary because when in interview with gym instructors Ill be
able to know beforehand the benefits of the job, and have a closer bond with the person rather than
being completely clueless to what is happening and being said.

!!!!! This is benifical for my documentary because I can see the percentage of reasons for people not
having a healthy lifestyle, and the amount of adults that want to change their lifestyle choices.
