Philosophy of Education
My philosophy of education is that education is key for life. Education, in the classical
setting, is taught inside a classroom. In reality, it is the moments that student and teacher hold
conversations expanding the classroom curriculum. The students learn something new with an
academics view while the teachers learns how said topic affects the young student. We, as
educators, teach children so that they get the best and most updated information about whatever
it is that they want to do the rest of their life. As the future of this country and the world, we want
the generations we work with to be as prepared as possible, to be critical thinkers, and to be
creative. In a classroom for ten months we can only teach students so much, but the thing that a
teacher can do is infuse students with inspiration for the future. We can instill in them the want
to thrive and learn as much as they can, whether this be in science, math, English, or the arts, it is
our main duty as these childrens primary instructor. As a current student and future educator,
what I would want for my future students to have as adults is happiness. A happiness that is
brought forth from being satisfied that all their dreams and aspirations could be done because
they had nothing holding them back. Be it attending higher education schooling, traveling,
meeting other people, they knew they could do it because their K-12 education build a solid
foundation for them to grow on.
Every child is different. This is one of the reasons as to why it is wonderful and
challenging for a teacher to construct a learning environment and learning rubric to which

students will feel confortable in. As technology continues to come up with more ways to catch a
persons interest, as educators it is our responsibility to infuse technology and education
together. By mixing these to different elements we can make a student more confortable because
they are so well versed in technology. My belief about how children learn best is all in how they
perceive that they are being seen. This means that respect should also be a primary way of
behaving towards a student. A safe environment is crucial to prevent unwanted distractions sway
the students attention. By having a safe classroom it will help the student be less shy or less
stressed about the outside world, hence having them focus solely on the material at hand.
Diversity is variety, and variety is found in everything. As educators we have to have a
commitment to social justice at a large and small scale. These include problems that occur world
wide or nationwide to our own neighborhood down to the issues at school. We should encourage
students to think as creatively as possible to find solutions to problems we face the most and how
to better our world at every step of their life. Recognizing the difference between putting a BandAid on an issue versus how to eliminate or cure the root of the problem is a contrast students
should have in mind. This shows the big picture of different scenarios and allows students to
see how their actions have the power to snowball into other movements, also known as the
butterfly effect. All students should receive equal access to learning but unfortunately even
today, in a first world country, there are still schools in existence that do not have enough books
for a whole classroom. I would bring this up and encourage students to think of ways to come up
with funding or other ways these problem could have solutions.
My beliefs about teachers is that we are not just vessels to pass on information about
school subjects; we are fountains of information about life that should be shared with everyone.
As a student, one of my favorite things was learning about my teachers personal

accomplishments, ideas, beliefs, and dreams. It exposed a side that teachers usually hide behind
the teacher persona but that I found was an inspiration to keep on studying hard. I have had the
wonderful opportunity to study abroad, which I would not have known about without the Lizzie
McGuire movie. Germany has tuition-free universities open to the world. These are the
experiences that we should be sharing with our students to get them into the idea of college
symbolizing more opportunities. We have to expose students to what is really out there in
regards to what we learn in school even after we have finished our higher education. My beliefs
about how I teach are going to depend on the students, not every student learns at the same level
and speed. We have to reflect our students enthusiasm and to throw out enthusiasm to our
students about our subjects. A quote from George Evans comes to mind when talking about how
students learn, Every student can learn. Just not on the same day or in the same way. This
should be kept in the mind of every teacher because we dont all come the same places or are in
the same mind set everyday.
From my observations, experience of working with other teachers, and my personal
experiences as a student I have learned that being respectful and open to our students leads for a
more effective and cherished teacher. Being liked should not the top priority for a teacher but to
be respected as an individual and for his or her job. As teachers our responsibility to continue
and develop professionally should be taken as students: eager and at the ready. We, as people,
never stop learning. There is no point in time where we reach full capacity of what we intake, we
should be ready to learn whatever else life throws at us.
