OUTLINE
6:00 6:05pm: Parents and students arrive and gather on the rug. At the door,
parent-student duos are given a colored card which will later determine which
center to start at.
6:05 6:20pm: Teacher will model a read aloud using a favorite bedtime story. After
reading, the teacher will instruct parents and students on the details of each
station and where each group will go.
6:20 6:30pm: 1st center rotation
6:30 6:40pm: 2nd center rotation
6:40 6:50 pm: 3rd center rotation
6:50 7:00pm: Closing time. Students will present a goodnight song to parents and
parents will leave with the students story and also their informational Reading at
Home with your Kids magnet.

CENTER #1 : WORD HUNT


Word Hunt Center: In this center students and parents work as a team to pair words by
meaning and pattern.
Focus: Decoding & Vocabulary
Instructions: The team will be given a sack of cards with vocabulary words and
definitions. The vocabulary cards must be placed on a chart in the appropriate column
according to its word pattern. The definition cards must be placed on the corresponding
vocabulary word posters, which will be placed around the room. If students do not know
a word, they may look it up in a dictionary.
Standards:
L.2.4.E - Use glossaries and beginning dictionaries, both print and digital, to
determine or clarify the meaning of words and phrases.
RF.2.3.C - Decode regularly spelled two-syllable words with long vowels.

CENTER # 2: STUDENT READING


Student Reading Center: Students share their bedtime story with their
parents.
Focus: Fluency & Comprehension
Details: After children finish reading their stories, the teacher will
have students who want to share, read their story with the group.
The group will talk about each story together.
Standards:
W.2.3: Write narratives in which they recount a well- elaborated
event or short sequence of events, include details to describe
actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal
event order, and provide a sense of closure
RF.2.4.B: Read grade-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate
rate, and expression on successive readings

CENTER # 3: FAMILY READING


Family Reading Center: A family or guardian adult reads to
the student. They can bring their own book from home, or
choose from the class library.
Focus: Listening & Comprehension
Details: Parents will read to students and can practice
using their Reading at Home with Kids magnet to guide
their questioning during reading.
