Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Faith Robin Buchin and it is an honor for me to be working with Mrs. Hetschel in her
Marine Biology and Biology classes as a student teacher for the Spring semester. This is the final
step in my teacher credential program at Pima Community College. By May, I should be fully
certified to teach high school Biology.
I have an extensive background in the sciences, having graduated the University of Arizona with
a bachelors degree in General Science and a major in Microbiology with minors in Nutrition and
Child Development. I began a Masters degree in Educational Media, however, it was not
completed due to family circumstances and a move. I also completed Paralegal studies and
certification as I have an interest in the Law and Forensic Science.
Although I am originally from Detroit, and have lived many places around the United States, most
of my life has been spent in Southern Arizona. I am familiar with our rich, diverse culture in the
Sonoran Desert and look forward to incorporating aspects of it in the classroom when applicable.
Teaching is a second career for me, as my children are adults with careers of their own. I am
blessed with a nine-year-old grandson and a one-month old granddaughter, plus two grand dogs!
My husband is also a teacher.
Every student has the ability to learn in the correct setting. Students are individuals and learn in
different ways. As a teacher, I am committed to knowing each student in order to facilitate their
learning. Also, as Margaret Mead once stated, children should be taught how to think, not what
to think. Once they have attained the ability to think critically, students will be able to learn on
their own.
My teaching experience includes substitute teaching in Tennessee and long-term substitute
teaching at several middle schools and two magnet high schools in Tucson. In addition, I
completed coursework from PCC through the post-degree teacher certification program with
practica in several schools.
I look forward to working with your children and the wonderful curriculum in Marine Biology and
Biology. Students will be using a combination of processes in order to advance their
understanding of the world around us. Continuity is very important in science, so please make
sure your child attends school every day, except when they are ill.
