bemuchbetterappliedtoexpandingwatersystemsincitiestosuitthegrowingpopulation
ratherthantryingtoquellit.Urbandwellershavethepurposeofsustainingthebeautyor
privilegeoftheircityintheseattemptstokeepthepoorout,buttheywillhavelimitedaccessto
waterwhethertheyseeitornot.Providingwaterfortheirchildrenwouldbeinfinitelyeasierin
thecities.
Thewaymanygovernmentstrytolimitimmigrationistolimittheprovisionofinfrastructureto
illegalsettlements.Thesearereallyjustlowincomeareas(Patel).Allthatisachievedisan
evenlowerstandardoflivingandlessbasicservicessuchaswaterforallpoorfamilies
regardlessofwhethertheyaremigrants(Ambrosini).PovertywillalwaysexistinAustin,so
deprivingthepoorofwaterwillonlyhurtmorehumanbeings,notpreserveourwayofliving.
Theimplementationofalawprohibitinggovernmentspendingonservicessuchasdrinking
watersupplyforimmigrantscosttaxpayersapproximately2million.Thefederalgovernment
saves14centsinbenefitsforeveryhundreddollarsinadministrativecosts(Schmaltz).While
somethinkthatkeepingthepoorawayfromcitieshelpstheeconomy,itisactuallybeneficialto
provideforthem.Obviouslyitisnoteconomicallypracticaltoattempttolimitimmigrationin
Austin.
LimitingpeoplefrommigratingtoAustinwillonlycostusmoneyandtheconditionofourpoor.
Althoughitislessapparent,theaccessofthepoortowaterismuchworseinruralareasthanin
ourcities.Thefundingandeffortwemayhaveusedtowardslimitingpublicaccesstowater
wouldbemorebeneficialifusedtoimproveurbanwatersystemstogiveaccesstoall.Wemust
adapttothegrowingpopulationorsacrificethehumanrightswearemisguidedlytryingto
preserve.
