Investigating a key mathematical concept at the K-12

My partner and I will be teaching about comparing sizes, we will start off our
lesson with a small introduction. Well place a huge table in the middle of the
classroom with various toys big and small, we will separate students into four
groups, send them each to a corner, and let the groups one by one choose a toy that
they want. We will then place two tables into each corner one labeled big, the
other small. Students will place their toys on which answer they think is right in
their groups corner, after theyre done discussing they will come up to the front and
discuss their answers with their fellow students, why they think this toy is big or
small, are they happy with their results as a team and a few more. After discussing
their results, we will seat them in order of formative seating and hand them
worksheets, to see which students understood the lesson and which students need
help improving. After grading, we will then discuss each students worksheet, then
reflect on what they did today, and then end the lesson with closure.

Engage: Students participate mentally in an idea.

- First, well engage the students by playing a song introducing comparing.

Well ask the students to stand up and sing and dance along to the song
and follow our directions.

Explore: Students identify and develop ideas, processes and skills. They
actively explore their environment..
- Then, well separate the students into groups of four and allow them to
explore the activity together. Each team will find two different sized
tables, big and small and place various sized toys above the table and ask
them to place the small ones on the small table and the big ones on the
big table. That way, the children will be exploring themselves and that
will give them a head start on the lesson that were about to teach.

Explain: Students will be able to express what they understood in the lesson
verbally, and even demonstrate what they learned, teacher even teach them
new definitions and terms during this section.
- After exploring the activities, well send each group to a corner and ask
them to solve the given activity together and once they know the answer
theyll come in front and explain it to their fellow students.

Elaborate: Students develop a deeper understanding to the lesson by

experiencing new things, it helps them understand the lesson and permits
them to learn new skills and behavior.
- Were going to elaborate the students by asking them to list how many
small and big toys they have on their table, then ask them to compare
them to other teams and discuss the final results to the students.

Evaluate: Students test their abilities, giving their teachers the opportunity to
know what students understand and what they need to improve.
- For the final E, well hand out a worksheet and separate them in
formative seating. This method is used commonly by teachers to make
sure that the students have understood what they have been taught earlier.
