Education Field Experience EDUC 230-01
Spring 2016
Rationale Statement
Statement of Standard Eleven Ethical Practice
Teachers shall act in accordance with legal and ethical responsibilities and shall use integrity
and fairness to promote success of all students. (NJPTSB, 2014, pg.14)
Name of Artifact: Time Sheet and Evaluation
Date of Artifact: April 2016
Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-01
Rationale Statement:
The artifact that ties in with Standard 11.2 Essential knowledge is the time sheet and
evaluation. For this artifact, I had to record, and have my cooperating teacher sign, a time sheet
to ensure that I spent the needed time in the classroom (30 hours). At the end of my time at the
cooperating school, my cooperating teacher evaluated me based on multiple factors such as
punctuality, attendance, enthusiasm, etc. These two items connect to the part of the standard that
says, The teacher knows and understands strategies to foster professional and productive
relationships with students and colleagues. While doing my hours as a pre-service teacher, I
made many friends within the school community. I also taught a lesson with a fellow colleague
and we had to work together to create a meaningful lesson that would be impactful for not only
the students, but for ourselves as well.
While completing this semester long artifact, I learned multiple things about being a
teacher. One of the most important things that I learned was the experience itself of being in a
classroom, and being seen as a professional and how important it is to maintain that boundary
within a classroom environment. My cooperating teacher helped me understand what it means to
be a teacher without sugar coating any details. She told me all of the ups and downs of the
profession, and helped me realize that regardless of the difficulties and stress that comes along
with the job, that teaching is what I truly love and want to do. Although I completed a total of 50
hours while at NHHS, it truly felt like a lifetime and I will never forget the people that I met
along the way, or the experience that I had the honor of undergoing.
This artifact will stick with me for my entire career. While of course, I will not have to
fill out a time sheet every day that I come into work, I hope to invite other college students to
join me in my classroom so that I can help pass on what I learned through the experience. I will
also use this artifact in my future classroom to use as a mental checklist of what I should be
doing, as well as what I am currently doing. This artifact will help me to become the educator
that I can be with my full potential.
