Family/Community Connection or Extension:
I will encourage parents and families to talk to the students about the different kinds of
plants that they may eat or have in their yard. I will encourage the parents to go on a
nature walk with the student in order for them to see different plants.
Pre-Assessment:
I collaborated with my mentor teacher to see which lesson was appropriate for the
students in my class. We decided on plant structure.

I will engage the students by asking the students what kinds of plants they know. Then
ask the students what are the different parts of the plants.

Lesson Procedure and Activities: (the format will depend on the type of lesson such as ELA or
science)
Introduction:
I will introduce this lesson to the students by telling them that we will be learning
about the different parts of the plants.
I will allow the students to explore about this lesson by working as a whole group to
name the different parts of the human body, and then the different parts of a plant.
Activities:
I will begin the lesson by showing the video from BrainPop Jr. about plants.
After the video, I will ask the students what are the main parts of a plant that we learned
from the video.
I will write the names of the parts of the plants on a paper that will show on the
SmartBoard. (Roots, Stem, Leaves, Flowers, Seeds)
Then, I will pass out construction paper to each of the students.
The students are instructed to draw their own plant and they have to label it with the
correct parts.
Students are able to use their crayons to draw and their pencils to label the parts.
After the students are finished drawing and labeling their plants, they will have to write
the definition of each of the parts.
The students are allowed to look through the dictionary to find the definition.
Closure:
When everyone is done with their plant structure, I will allow the students to share
their drawings and explain their plant parts and what their functions are.
Differentiation:
Students with special needs will have assistance from me whenever they need help. I
will help them label the plant if needed. These students will also have extra time to
finish this assignment.
Students with behavior needs may have the opportunity to sit next to me while they
work on this assignment or away from their peers. I will give these students a warning
before I do so.
Students with different ability levels will have assistance if they are not able to color
or write. I will provide assistance if needed.
This lesson is nonbiased so it does not have any cultural differences.
Formative Assessment/Evaluation:

After the students are done, I will check their drawings to see if they were able to
label the main parts of the plant. I will also check to see if their definitions were
correct.
