Q2:

How does your media

product represent a
particular social
group?

Zehra
Zehras character is a 16 year old Caucasian
female. Zehras ethnicity does not play a part
in her character but her age group is visible
through her costume. Although we do not see
a lot of zehra we are able to tell her age
through her mise-en-scene. We do not get to
see zehras face so we are not able to tell her
age through her face. She wears plain cream
jeans and a white crop top. This is a casual
outfit for a teenager. Zehras character
represents female stereotypically as a victim.
Females are potrayed as weak, vunreble and
helpless in thrillers which makes zehra a
perfect character to comform this role.

Sina
Sina is the main character in our movie. Sinas
character is a 16 year old black African. Sinas
ethnicity in our movie subverts typical roles as
usually the black character is the first to die in
a Thriller/ Horror movie but in our movie sina is
the only one that has survived. Sinas age is
shown through mise-en-scene. Teenagers are
seen to lack dominance which makes her
become likely to become a prey to the
protagonist. Sinas character survives and tries
to play the heroe and help her friends. This
challenges typical gender roles as the heroe is
usually played by a male figure

Sheriece
Sheriece does not play a large role in
this movie. She is seen briefly during
the flashback. Sherieces character is
a 16 year old black African. The
audience does not know what
happened to sheriece but assume
that she is already dead. This
conforms the stereotypical first
death as the black character always
dies first in thrillers. As a teenager
sherieces character is seen as
venerable and innocent and is
expected to die.

Antagonist
The antagonists identity is anonymous
which means that we do not know if its a
male or female and we do not know if its a
teen or an adult. From the plot we assume
that it is a teenage girl as the character is
out for revenge on their friends. This will
insinuate that the character is around the
same age as the girls and is likely to be a
female which challenges gender role as
the protagonist is usually a male.

Conclusion
The Variety of ethnicities allows us to reach out to a broad
audience from different backgrounds. The age range used in
our movie allows us to reach out to our targeted age as all
our characters are teenagers and our targeted audience is
15-25. We conformed many stereotypes in thriller movies to
make our movie fit the genre. We subverted some
stereotypes such as our antagonist to challenge gender
roles. From our audience response we found that teens were
able to understand the plot and what was going on whilst the
adults were confused and did not understand the opening as
a whole.
