A Tuning Protocol
This is an assignment about secondary color for 2ed grad class.
Prior to being given this assignment, student will understand and know the
basic colors, which are red, blue, and yellow. The teacher will show students some
pictures and video about how you can create secondary colors using different
combinations of the basic colors. In addition, teacher will explain the color
definition for student, and learn how to mix and create new color from the 3 basic
colors. After that, ask students to share examples of secondary colors they see in
their surroundings. Then, children will share pictures of secondary colors and talk
about the different colors in terms how to make these colors from the 3 basic
colors. While the students share their pictures and talk about the secondary colors,
the teacher will ask them to create at least three different secondary colors from the
3 basic colors and use these three secondary colors to draw a picture.

Here is the assignment:

In the class, draw a picture of students choice (i.e. a house, an animal, a
person, etc.) with at least three secondary colors created from the three basic
colors. In addition, the student needs to describe in one or more sentence, how they
created the secondary colors he/she used the drawing.

My question for this tuning protocol are:

1. What other information, processing or question can you think of that will be
needed by learner before they begin the assignment?
2. What suggestion do you have to increase students engagement in this
assignment?
3. What additional explanation would you like to have in the directions?

The Tuning Protocol

The Tuning Protocol is a structured process that allows for reflection and
meaningful feedback about a project, a text, a performance, or any work in
progress. The Tuning Protocol assumes that the presenter or presenters want to
improve the work in question and that the participants will deliver thoughtful,
substantive feedback.
I want to talk about my experience in the performance of the Tuning
Protocol, In the beginning I felt that it's difficult especially since the process
requires the selection of a good assessment of students. I also worried about the
feedback that will be given by my colleagues and instructor in class, but when I
saw my colleagues enthusiasm when they have the tuning protocol I decided to go
with this experience.
The first stage when I did this assessment was to choose the evaluation. I
tried to choose the grade I prefer to teach which is the second grade and the subject
was Art. The assignment was about secondary colors. Furthermore, my evaluation
for students was to ask the students to draw a picture of students choice (i.e. a
house, an animal, a person, etc.) with including at least three secondary colors
created from the basic colors. In addition, the student needs to describe in one or
more sentence, how they created the secondary colors he/she used the drawing.

The second stage was the presentation of the discussed assessment I

proposed to my colleagues and instructor in class. Despite the fear and anxiety that
I felt before presenting my proposed assessment, I started to present and the fear
started disappearing. Before discussing my proposed assessment of secondary
colors, I gave a brief introduction to my colleagues and instructor about how I am
going to teach the students secondary colors. Then, I described how I am going to
assess the students understanding of secondary colors and why I choose this
assessment.
The next part was to have open discussion about my proposed teaching
approach of secondary colors to second grade and my proposed assessment with
my colleagues. The discussion resulted in opening my eyes to thing I did not think
about when I came up with this assessment. In addition, my colleagues
constructive comments helped me in thinking differently about creating
assessments in the future.
In the end, it was very good experience that I learned from. It gave a chance
to discuss different opinions and methodologies of teaching and assessments with
my colleagues to help me in the future in teaching and designing suitable and
appropriate assessments to my students.
