General: Keep student workers and public safe through demolition and construction process.
This document provides a site specific/job scope specific safety analysis and mitigation process.
Site safety requirements and information are listed below.
Goal: The goal of this project is a 100% injury free construction process.
Site Safety Information:
Tree fall
Vehicle site proximity
Mitigation
Be aware of holes that may cause material transportation issues;
Mark any major potholes that may cause shift in larger loads
Bug and wasp spray will be on site to protect workers and public
from harm
Site will be marked with caution tape as well as down road
approaching site saying Caution work ahead
As warm weather approaches water coolers will be on site to
reduce risk of dehydration or over heating during construction
process
Site will be accessed before each work day to ensure danger from
surrounding trees
An area will be marked for workers to park vehicles to ensure
ease of material or public travel
Training: Before work begins that day a training session will be held to ensure safe use of
tools. No worker shall be allowed to use any tool that they have not been trained how to safely
use or does not feel confident in performing task with the given tool.
PPE: Hard hat, safety vest, and safety glasses shall be worn at all times on site.
Tool Condition: Battery tools and chord tools will be inspected for working condition prior to
use and after the days work. Any tool deemed damaged will be removed from the site and future
use.
Demolition: One pre-existing sign is on site and is to be removed to construct new kiosk.
This process will be planned to safely remove existing kiosk and transport those materials
per the Rangers request to a location to be determined.
Pre-fab of new kiosk: Two (2) new kiosk will be built and placed. The wood members
will be precut at the Auburn University BSCI field lab. Safety meetings and power tool
training will be held prior to working.
Material Transportation: Pre-fab materials and other needed tools will need to be
transported to the sight. Larger wooden members will require trailer loads to and from
site. Prior to load departure, each load is to be inspected and deemed secure before
leaving. The driver is responsible for abiding to Alabama traffic laws and safe
transportation of materials to the site. The driver must have adequate experience in
pulling large trailer loads.
Kiosk Erection: This process will involve fastening and securing members together as
planned to complete (2) new kiosk. Safety meetings and job specific training will be held
on site prior to beginning work for that day.
Public Safety: The site is in a public National Park and their safety is imperative to this
project. Caution tape and signs on the approaching roads will be placed as well as a team
member watching to ensure complete public safety and the project goal of 100% injury
free construction process.
General Site: Work conditions will be recorded and kept on file. Site location in National
Forrest requires full cooperation to state and federal laws in a protected Forrest. Any
potential hazards will be addressed and resolved immediately and work will not continue
until hazard is mitigated.
