Statement of Standard Ten: Leadership and Collaboration

The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility
for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school
professionals. And community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the
profession (NJPTSB, 2014, pg 13).

Name of Artifact: Welcome Letter

Date of Artifact: Spring 2016
Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-01
Rationale Statement:
For this artifact I had to put together a welcome letter for the parents of my
students. The welcome letter included a brief introduction to myself, what the students
can expect from my class, and what they will need in order to succeed in my class. The
artifact directly relates to the Performances Standard 10.4 which states, The teacher
works collaboratively with learners and their families to establish mutual expectations
and ongoing communication to support learner development and achievement (13). My
welcome letter does exactly this.
From this artifact I learned how crucial it is to establish a positive relationship with
my students parents. Being on good terms with them will make both my job and their job
as parents much easier. It will also play a positive role in my students educations.
This welcome letter will be used in my professional career. There will be tweaks

made to it in the future, but it will be a powerful tool to establish a positive relationship
with the parents of my students. I enjoyed writing up this welcome letter, and look
forward to revising it during my career as a teaching professional.
