for learners to assure mastery of the content (NJPTSB, 2014, pg 5).
Name of Artifact: Assignment from a Course in Subject Area
Date of Artifact: March, 2016
Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-01

Rationale Statement:
This artifact essentially guarantees that I am proficient enough in mathematics to
teach it at the high school level. I have two things from my Calculus 1 class included in
this artifact and that is my end of the semester grade of a B+ and my final project.
Calculus 1 was the highest level math class I have completed and I wanted to include
my final grade to show how well I did in the class along with my final project because it
summed up the class pretty nicely and shows the level of math I am capable of. I believe
this ties directly into the Essential Knowledge Standard 4.1 which states, The teacher
understands major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of

knowing that are central to the discipline(s) s/he teachers (6) because my final project
shows that I do understand these core ideas.
What I learned from this artifact is that my education in mathematics is from from
over. Upon transferring I still need to complete Calculus 2 and 3, along with other
advanced math courses. It will be a challenge, but I have confidence in myself. So far
this semester I have learned so much about time management and have developed
much better work ethics that I will continue to carry on these skills throughout my college
career and life.
This artifact will be used in my future classroom because it will show my
competence towards my profession. The project I am particularly proud of, and I will use
to show future students just how powerful of a tool math can be.
