Name of Artifact: Personal Philosophy of Teaching and Learning
Date of Artifact: February 18, 2016
Course: Education Field Experience EDUC 230-01
Rationale Statement:
This artifact was my Personal Philosophy of Teaching and Learning assignment.
For this artifact, I wrote specifically about my personal teaching philosophy. In my
personal teaching philosophy I discussed how I plan to treat my future students, my
expectations for them, and what kind of environment I hope my future classroom to be.
The main point to my teaching philosophy, which I discussed, is that I strongly believe
that if I care about my job, and my students recognize that, then they will put in the effort
to succeed in my class. I believe that my personal teaching philosophy directly relates to
Standard Three of the Professional Standards for Teachers in many ways. One of those
ways is via Performances Standard 3.3 which states, The teacher collaborates with
learners and colleagues to develop shared values and individual and group responsibility
for quality work (4). I believe that if I convince my students that I care about them, this
will be the result. My hopes are that it will raise the collective efficacy of my class and
that my students will hold each other to a high standard, and that they will care about
their work as much as I do.
While completing the artifact, I learned how influential a teacher could be towards

the quality of his/her students education. Teachers who care more about their students
do have students who produce better results. While completing this artifact I did think
constantly about teacher burnout, and how that is a thing. So I could not help but worry
about how that will eventually happen to me in my career, but I feel like that is an
obstacle best worried about when it occurs. As of now I do believe I will continue to be
passionate about my students education throughout my career as a teacher.
Of course this artifact will be used in my future classrooms. This is my teaching
philosophy, this is what I believe about being an effective teacher. Now I currently work
in a kindergarten/after school and I bring this philosophy with me to work everyday.
Although these are much younger children than I would like to work with, it has been
working very well for me. All the students love me and they are all very eager to spend
time with me, learn with me, and do their homework with me. Of course teenage minds
are much different than the minds of children, but I know when the time comes I will be
able to handle teenagers as well.
