REFERENCE FOR: Edgar Orejel

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter serves as a personal reference for Mr. Edgar Orejel in his application for a
position at ABC Unified School District. While I cannot comment on Mr. Orejels abilities as an
instructor since I have never observed him teach, I can attest to his personal qualities and
potential for success as an instructor. I have known Mr. Orejel for about two years. He was a
student in my Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Classroom Management course at
California State University Long Beach. Edgar was an excellent student having earned an A in
the course. I would rank Edgar in the top 5% of the class. He came to each class session prepared
to participate in the discussions and activities. His assignments were always completed in a
timely manner. Many of our activities involved group discussions. In this setting, Edgar worked
effectively with the diverse members of his group. He demonstrated tact both in disagreeing with
others and in listening to those who may have disagreed with his opinions. The assignments in the
course prepared him to develop a year-long standards-based curriculum map with standardsbased units and lesson plans. He learned to differentiate for diverse student abilities and to create
a classroom environment that fosters positive relationships between and among the students and
the teacher. He was also introduced to how career-themed small learning communities address
college/career readiness, and he contributed to a group interdisciplinary career-themed project as
a culminating activity for the course.
Mr. Orejel is currently working at Alliance College-Ready Public Schools where he
teaches 10th grade World History and 12th grade Government. There he has been recognized by
district personnel for his ability to provide meaningful differentiation for his ELL students. He
also serves as an adviser to the Gay Straight Alliance group.
Mr. Orejel is a highly motivated, intelligent, and energetic individual. He embodies poise
and emotional stability. His background is replete with experiences that make him and very
viable candidate for a position as a teacher. I enthusiastically endorse his application and
welcome an opportunity to further explore his qualifications. Should you require additional
information, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at: smrogers28@gmail.com.

Cordially,

Sandra M. Rogers
