BUSINESS 1010 TERM PROJECT PAPER

Job Description:
Harlow Keith (2015) explains it best when he states Mechanical engineers apply
their knowledge of physics to design, construct and monitor mechanical systems. The
field of engineering is expansive, covering a variety of sub-disciplines and commanding
the direction of many innovative and exciting technologiesDay to day duties vary.
Mechanical engineers have the most diverse skillset of all engineering fields. Most of the
mechanical engineers jobs are focused around manufacturing industries, research and
development of products, and general engineering services. Mechanical engineers must
have an extensive skillset and knowledge of computers and multiple programs for
product designing. These programs are very powerful and can create simulations to
demonstrate project applications. In every industry there is an application for mechanical
engineers. These fundamentals are just the beginning, from design to production
engineers are involved in planning products, designing the blue prints, production,
troubleshooting, and research and design to investigate failures and create solutions to
bring a product to the market.
General Career Path:
Becoming an engineer from an entry level position requires tenure. Teamwork is
an essential part of an effective group of engineers. From day one, if you want to become
the lead engineer you must demonstrate a high level of knowledge, demonstrate accurate
calculations, and proficiency across multiple disciplines. There arent many roles
between entry-level engineering and lead engineering. Your relative experience is the
most scrutinized when applying for promotions.

General Education Experience:

The minimum level of education required is a bachelors degree. There are
graduate programs where you can obtain a masters degree or even a doctorates. General
school takes 3-5 years assuming you have adequate testing scores to start in the level of
core classes that are required. Bureau of Labor Statistics states (2015-2016)
A mechanical engineering degree takes 4 years to complete. On average most people take
5-6 years to obtain their bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. For advancement in
the workplace, such as a management role, a graduate degree is required.
Average Salary:
BLS et al (2015) states The median annual wage for mechanical engineers was
$80,580 in May 2012. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an
occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent
earned less than $52,030, and the top 10 percent earned more than $121,530.
Career outlook:
BLS et al. A demand for mechanical engineers is expected to grow approximately
5% between 2012 and 2020. Growth will vary between specific industries and there is an
advantage to those that stay current with technology advances.
Keith et al. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, mechanical engineers can
expect slow job growth overall until 2020. However, because the field includes several
burgeoning areas of mechanical science, job-specific growth over the next 20 years may
differ from the BLS prediction.

Bio of Someone In the Profession:

Jennica Bellanca Graduated from The University of Pittsburg and also received
her graduates degree from The University of Pittsburg. Bellancas et al. currently holds
the position of a Bioengineer at Mine Safety and Health Research - National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health. Bellancas responsibilities include investigating the
current interface and information transfer issues across the mining industry. Designing
and developing qualitative research instruments. Designing and developing research
protocols to assess human factor concerns in mining. Bellancas et al. Has been in her
position for 4 years and 2 months.
Pros and Cons:
According to Aol.com Aol Team, (2015) Con: Ongoing education is required for
becoming a successful mechanical engineer and availing all services. Con. You need to
have a masters degree, and oftentimes a doctoral degree as well because of the intense
competition and rapidly changing technologies. Con: Travel May Be Required. Travel
may be enjoying for some people and a positive sign, but too much travel to the same
place becomes boring and annoying as they have to make onsite inspections for the
placement of machines or fixing equipment. Pro: Job flexibility. This job being wide
range is one of the most flexible jobs, unlike a specialist that has no choice. Mechanical
engineers can choose where they work in a variety of industries including Mechatronics,
aerospace, robotics, and manufacturing industries. You can also change your field within
mechanical engineering.

Pro: High-level Salary and other Benefits. Undoubtedly, Mechanical engineers are
paid a lot with an average annual income along with many benefits that include health,
holidays and retirement plans.
Your fit within this career
Bryan Maalouf et al. I align well with the nature of the job requirements. I am a very
detail oriented person and like to know how things work. When things break, I like to
diagnose the failure and see what could be improvised to make it better. Currently my
interest is in performance vehicle part manufacturing. My ideal position is within
research and design of a respected leader in the power sport racing industry. I recognize
that there is a lot to consider when designing and manufacturing components that will
endure high stress environments. I enjoy a challenge and take pride in accomplishing
goals that I apply myself to. I am physically able, and mentally capable of completing all
tasks associated with the profession. My mindset is inline with my future and my
academics will demonstrate proficiency throughout my college career.
