Code of Ethics
1. As an educator I will strive to give students every opportunity possible. This will not
be inhibited by a students race, sex, national origin, marital status, political beliefs, cultural
background, or sexual orientation. I will not give unfair advantage to any student or deny a
student an opportunity. This means I will treat students as fairly as possible. All students will be
included in class and any programs I hold.
In my classroom this means everyone will be treated equal no matter what. This will
apply to how my students behave in my classroom as well. No group will exclude one of their
peers for any reason. It is only fair that every child get the same opportunity to join in and work
as a group.
2. As an educator I will stay committed to my students by not unreasonably denying a
students access to varying points of view. It is my understanding that the only way to be truly
educated on a subject an individual must know all aspects of the subject. This includes varying
points of view. There will be times that this point of view may not agree with my personal
beliefs, but the information must be presented to the students to judge themselves.
An example of this could be a controversial issue such as abortion. As an individual I
may be severely against the idea and practice of abortion. As an educator I must present this
point of view as well as the support of abortion. I will not project my own views on students by
denying them both points of view. Students will be able to decide for themselves if they are or
are not in support of an idea or subject.
3. As a teacher I will not intentionally embarrass or criticize a student. This will be true
for whenever I am dealing with a student. No one deserves to me ridiculed, much less a student.
Peers are already belittling as it is, so a teacher must not put a student down for any reason. In

2
addition to this I will make every effort to stop bullying in my classroom. I will not condone the
mistreatment of another individual. There will be a no tolerance policy for bullying in my
classroom.
I will put forth every effort to keep a student from embarrassment. I will follow through
with this by never calling a student out in front of others. If there is a problem with a students
work or behavior, I will speak to them privately about it in a professional manner. If there is a
problem, I never want a student to feel stupid or dumb. I will strategize a plan with the
student to improve the behavior rather than just condemning him or her for their actions.
4. As a professional educator I will not knowingly make false or malicious statements
about a colleague. This completely unethical to talk bad about a colleague no matter the
circumstances. As educators we are in a battle together. We are battling to educate students to the
best of our abilities. There is no benefit for us to start attacking one another.
In addition, I just morally believe we should treat each other how we would like to be
treated. I dont want others to be making false and malicious statements about me. I want my
colleagues to respect and value me as a coworker. I will do all of my colleagues the same
courtesy.
5. As a professional in my field I will base professional action and decisions upon sound,
objective rationale without influence of favors, gifts, or personal or political advantage. I will not
take part in bribery to make any professional decision. Morally it is wrong to take or use things
for any personal advantage. I promise to make sound decisions for my classroom that are not
influenced by material possessions or personal advantage.
As an overview to my personal code of ethics, I promise to do right. This is the
standard I will hold my students to, so it is the standard I will hold myself to as well. As an

educator I will not purposefully behave with ill intent in my professional career or in my
commitment to my students. I will respect myself, my position, my colleagues, and above all my
students.
