Lesson Sequence/Procedures
Prior Knowledge/Review/Anticipatory Set, Demonstration/Modeling, Guided
Practice/Application/Interaction, Review/Assessment/Closure/Wrap-up
1. I will put up a picture of a tortilla on the projector.
2. I will ask the students does anybody know what this is?? they will
respond yes! And then I will ask them how many of you have eaten
one of these before? and then all, or almost all of them will raise their
hand.
3. I will then put up a picture of a bunch of different Mexican food from
Tanias restaurant. I will not specify that it is from that restaurant yet.
4. I will ask the students if they can tell me exactly what each Mexican
food is.
5. If students do not know what it is in English, I will allow them to say
what it is in Spanish and we can have a class discussion about that.
6. I will share with the students one of my experiences when I went to a
Mexican restaurant.
7. I will then ask the students to think about a time that they went to a
Mexican restaurant.
8. Then the students will pair with their table groups and share their
experiences with their tables.
9. The students will then share whole class about their experiences.
10.
I will be walking around as they think pair share with their table
groups to then facilitate the discussion as a class.
11.
I will then bring up the idea of narrative stories.
12.
I will tell them that those stories that they just shared would be
considered narrative stories. They would be the characters within the
narratives, and what happened first, second, third and last would be
their narrative.
13.
We will talk about the parts of a narrative, and how they start,
how the action that happens within the story is the middle, and how
they need to have a proper ending. We will also discuss how the events
that take place need to happen in an order that makes sense.
14.
I will then put up a picture of Tanias Flour Tortillas and Mexican
Food Restaurant
15.
I will ask the students if anybody has been to this restaurant.
Some of the students have already expressed that this is a place that
they go when I was planning the project, so I know at least some will
say that they have been there.

16.
I will tell the students that they will be coming up with a
narrative story that happened to them at this restaurant. I will explain
to them that a narrative can be an imagined story that happened to
them in a real life setting.
17.
The students will be writing these narratives in pairs. I will have
the pairs already made for the students.
18.
The students will have time to write their narratives together.
19.
We will then present the students narratives to the class.
Review/Assessment
I will assess the students throughout the lesson from walking around and
listening in on the table conversations and the conversations between
partners. I will ask questions to further their thinking and listen to their
responses.
I will then assess the students on their final presentation to the class. How
they work together to present this information will also be taken into
consideration.
Accommodations
I will place students who are very weak readers/writers with a student who is
a pretty strong writer so that their work together will balance out and not
effect the written part of the story.
