Sitecore Analytics Upgrade

This document list steps to upgrade Sitecore Analytics from 6.6 to 8.

NOTES:

Certain steps involve running Sitecore upgrade packages.

Start with a clean instance of Sitecore.
Only concerned with upgrading analytics data.
No need to bring in TW code or content.
If instructions ask to rebuild indexes or publish to web, there is no need to do this at this time.
Assets needed for the upgrade are in the folder Upgrade Assets.
If asked to update configuration files the best way to do that is override the current
configuration files with the new ones.
Because we are using a clean instance of Sitecore, there is no need to worry about losing any
custom configuration settings, because there are very few
Care should be taken to make sure the Connection strings and Data folder values are correct.

STEPS:
1. Setup a fresh instance of Sitecore 6.6
a. Install a new instance of Sitecore 6.6 130529
b. Replace the analytics database with a copy of the TW Sitecore 6.6 Production Analytics
DB
c. Update the Connection string
2. Upgrade to 7.0 130424
a. Follow the steps under the heading 18.2 stopping after step 9. To upgrade a Sitecore
CMS 6 version to this release on the Sitecore SDN:

b. The only configuration changes are to the web.config file. You can use the included
web.config file to replace the existing one. Remember to update your Datafolder path
c. There is no need to rebuild indexes or publish the site
3. Upgrade to 7.1 130926
a. Use the same website you used in the previous step
b. Follow the steps under the heading 12.2. To upgrade initial release of CMS and DMS
7.1 to this release

4. Upgrade to 7.2 140228

a. Use the same site you used in the previous step
b. Follow the steps under the heading To upgrade initial release of CMS and DMS 7.2 to
this release

5. Upgrade to 7.5 141003
a. Use the same site you used in the previous step
b. This is the most intensive update. This is where the analytics model changes.
c. In the analytics visit table update business name to Towers Watson where Business
Name = and country to US where country = N/A. Or use whatever values you choose.
d. When you get to the data optimization step. Youll want to update the default
DataOptimizationToolExe.Config file to use the values in
Use_This_DataOptimizationTool.exe.config
e. Follow the steps in the file xdb_upgrade_and_conversion_guide_sc75-usletter.pdf
6. Upgrade to 8.0 14122
a. Use the same site you used in the previous step
b. You dont need to follow all the steps. At this point all you really need to do is Execute
the Analytics script (Analytics_80_PreInstall.sql) on each of your reporting databases.
i. Or if you prefer, follow the steps outlined in Sitecore 8.0 Update InstructionsA4.pdf
7. At this point the analytics update should be complete there are no additional steps for 150121
or 150223. I have included those updates in the assets folder in case you want to review them.
