1. Please describe the degree of responsibility allocated to the student.

Andrea has been responsible for evaluating and enhancing ECAs social media presence, including testing the
use of post scheduling tools and content generation. She has also been responsible for responding to broader
marketing needs, such as working with the ECA Training Center to update their marketing materials and
advertise their classes. Finally, she has been responsible for major media compilations, first a slideshow for
the 30-year Anniversary Gala and second two videos: one for a grant submission and another for a storytelling
competition. Her work has been well-received!
2. Describe the form and frequency of communication with the intern.
Andrea and I have worked in the same office, so communication and check-ins have been ongoing.
3. How much time would you estimate that the student spent observing your leadership style?
As weve shared an office, Andrea has seen a fair amount of my interactions with colleagues and the
Executive Director. Im personally unsure whether to say that leadership style is always observable, or only
evident in certain key moments and conversations.
4. What were the outcomes of this experience for the student? Please list major projects assigned and
completed.
Andreas first and still largest major project was the preparation of a slideshow to showcase the organizations
story at our 30th Anniversary Gala, the two videos are ongoing works which should be completed over the
final week of her time with us. The outcomes for ECA have been necessary works done well.
The outcomes for Andrea have been positive as well. Her hope to develop experience in curating social media
and web presence has been fulfilled, and being embedded in our work has taught her a lot about energy
efficiency as a form of clean energy. All in all, it fulfilled the role first internships have to: introducing bright
young people to professional environments, and giving them real context in which to frame questions. I
believe this experience, especially once it can be compared and contrasted with future internships, will help
Andrea decide what role she wants to fulfill within an organization, what organizational culture she seeks to
be part of, and how to move from being open to challenges and multitalented to knowing what she wants to
do and loving to do it.
