o Give students time to talk about parts of a story and observe the student conversation
o Practice with sequence Velcro chart, and I will provide feedback to students

o Worksheet sequence of events
At least 7 accurate events numbered in order

Procedures - Lesson Introduction:


Read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
Ask students Fist to Five, How much they know about events in a story?
Talk about sequence of events within story- State that movies also follow this pattern

o Middle
o End
Seek examples from students of other stories with sequences of events to recall prior knowledge

Presentation/Explicit Instruction (I do):


1. Map Beginning, Middle, and End of the story on the board
2. Use If You Give a Mouse a Cookie sequence cards to show the order of story with chart made from
above
3. Discuss with students the order of events
4. Hand out practice worksheet
Structured and Guided Practice (We do):
1. Assist students while practicing as a group at their tables
2. Students will use premade Velcro charts for events within the story to rearrange the events in order
letting them talk with each other on the correct sequence
3. After completion students may get a book to read until all students are finished
Independent Practice/Application (You do):
1. Students will receive worksheet
2. Number at least 7 events in the correct order on worksheet
3. When finished students may get a book to silently read

Procedures - Lesson Closure:


Review parts of story with students
Ask if any other stories can be summarized, using Beginning, Middle, and End, with choral response
Celebrate with cookies!
