Dear Residents,

We are in some very difficult economic times and I want you to know that we have
attempted to do all we can to avoid a Municipal Tax Increase. We have eliminated
several positions this year and imposed a hiring freeze. We have reduced almost
every single department’s spending and budgets… but we still have a shortfall.

Please let me explain the shortfall:

 State Aid has been reduced by $315,000
 Tax Appeal Revenue Reduced by $1,300,000
 Increased Insurance and Health Benefits costs up $900,000
 In the past, Pension Contributions were able to be deferred. In Fiscal year 2010
balance must be paid in full…$1,500,000 more than the prior year.

I have been meeting with township employees to deal with even more difficult times
for Fiscal Year 2011 which begins July 1st of this year. We are also looking at a variety
of other ways to reduce spending and perhaps sell assets that we no longer need to
keep everyone employed and have our residents retain the services they have come
to appreciate.

I am also awaiting a response from the Governor’s Office to discuss our need for
increased Payments In Lieu of Taxes for the better that 20% of state owned property in
our town.

We do have a dilemma and I will continue to give it my fullest attention and my hope is
that both Council and our residents will work with me to get us through these difficult
economic times. I know that together better days are ahead!
