Todays lesson went well, despite a few problems that were (gladly)
solved, such as not finding a students copy, therefore not having a handout
for him for todays test (two tests per sheet, one on each side). I finally found
a misplaced spare sheet in the grade 4 box, allowing him to fairly take the
exam at the same time as all his peers. In the meantime, I had sent a
student to fetch the CT, so explained next weeks exam while waiting for him
to return. Positive out of this event: CT will searched for missing exam and
checked if grade had been entered (yes it was). Through the confusion, the
students exhibited a wonderful behavior, waiting patiently for us to be able
to start. Shortly before finding the extra copy, I considered setting the exam
aside for now, begin p.39, ask the CT to make an extra copy for me, then
would have done the exam after the listening exercise (p.39).
The rest of the period went well, except for the fact that I felt rushed
for time. The remaining work was assigned as homework, just like with the
other 3 groups (most of which didnt get one or two more answers before we
ended class).
Still a little hazed from the hiccup at the beginning of the period, I
forgot to activate prior knowledge and ask what we did last period, but
rather just moved on right into the activity, oops! Some students were
confused after the original explanation, so I made sure to clarify for any
student who was still unsure about the current task (despite feeling rushed).
I wasted too much time getting crmerie out of them (Dairy Bar) and could
have spoon-fed them a little more to get an answer faster and not rush the

rest of my lesson as much. On the flip-side, it demonstrated my waiting for

students to answer, correcting them, and encouraging them to take risks
answering.
From the post-observation debriefing, I understand that I am on the
right path as a student-teacher and that both my CT and supervisor are
satisfied with what I have accomplished so far. I was very pleased to hear
that Im doing better than what my CT was expecting. I was made aware of
some aspects of my teaching that need improvement (such as talking too
fast at times), and agree with what was said. My strengths were also
mentioned, such as offering students plenty of wait-time, having dealt well
with a problem, students feeling safe with me, me offering appropriate
correction/feedback, me being very respectful with students, as well as being
demonstrative of my pleasure at being there. Overall, the assessment is
positive: I meet expectations of all the observed criteria, and even exceed
some of them, which is really encouraging!
