The Project
As part of your TY programme, you will be required to work as part of a group of five, on a
project which incorporates a number of different subjects which you may or may not have
previously experienced. Along with the other members of your group you will be working closely
with the teachers of these subjects. The subjects are as follows:

Business
Accounting
Construction Studies (CS)
Design and Communication Graphics (DCG)
Engineering
Home Economics Science & Social (HE)
Art

The project commences Monday 5th September 2016 and will run until the Christmas holidays.

Project Outline
Your group will set up your own mini-company where you will research, design, make, advertise
and ultimately sell a product. The product must be a small decorative artefact or functional object,
which can be made in bulk, minimum 50 units, using materials, tools and machines available in
the CS and Engineering workshops. The use of materials and machines from the Art and DCG
rooms is also permitted. The product must be suitable for sale at the local Christmas market and
retail at a maximum cost of 20. All money will be invested by the group members and any profit
or loss at the end will belong to the members. Each group member will be allocated a leadership
role in the group.
The group will complete a presentation of your work to an audience of your peers, cooperating
teachers, principal and members of the board of management and local community as part of a
creativity and innovation seminar. The presentation will be completed orally and must include
visual images and details of the project along with physical samples of the product. The seminar
will take place in the school gym on Friday January 20th 2017 and provides the opportunity for all
groups to showcase their projects, skills and innovative ideas. This will also provide the
opportunity to make some final sales of your products
