Instructional Delivery and Facilitation

Ryan Melli

3.A
Deliver engaging and challenging lessons.
My artifact is a lesson I taught on finding the

theme in a poem. During this lesson they had

the opportunity to work by themselves, with
their peers and along with the teacher, so
they had the opportunity to learn in multiple
ways throughout the lesson.

3.B
Deepen and enrich students understanding

through content area literacy strategies,

verbalization of thought, and application of
the strategies.
I picked a lesson on finding the theme in
poetry where they had a chance to read the
poem first on their own, come up with what
they thought the theme was, and then turn
and talk with their peers to share their ideas.
After, we came together as a group to dissect
the poem and to see if they were on the right
track.

3.C
Identify gaps in students subject matter

knowledge.
During the same lesson, I differentiated
instruction for students who mastered the
content to those who didnt and determined
this during independent work.

3.D
Modify instruction to respond to

preconceptions or misconceptions.
Every lesson plan I fill out I make sure to list
the misconceptions the content I am bringing
might bring up so I will be able to recognize it
and help students understand what is wrong
about it.

3.E
Relate and integrate the subject matter with

other disciplines and life experiences.

I chose my lesson plan on theme in a poem
because this particular poem had a theme
that was universal for every student to
connect to. The theme was money cant buy
happiness and we need people in our lives to
keep going. Students can relate to this
message now and can carry it with them
through their lives.

3.F
Employ higher-order thinking questions.
I always make sure to have a section in my

lesson plan where I write my H.O.T questions

in there so I have them for the lesson.
Questioning is an aspect that I try to work on
everyday so it is good to have those questions
written down.

3.G
Apply varied instructional strategies and

resources, including appropriate technology,

to teach for student understanding.
Every lesson I teach I try and implement some
type of technology. For my artifact, I used the
Elmo, which is always a helpful tool to teach in
whole group instruction and is a tool I use
almost in every lesson.

3.H
Differentiate instruction based on assessment

of student learning needs and recognition of

individual differences in students.
During the same lesson, I differentiated

instruction for students who mastered the

content to those who didnt and determined
this during independent work.

3.I
Support, encourage, and provide immediate

and specific feedback to students to promote

student achievement.
In every lesson I plan to give some sort of
summative assessment that I look at to see if
they mastered the content and I try to give
that feedback back to them as soon as I can.

3.J
Utilize student feedback to monitor

instructional needs to adjust instruction.

My artifacts are the spelling inventories I gave
to my inquiry students this semester. I looked
at the data and saw where each individual
struggles so I knew where to start in my
inquiry.
