Smith 1 Kelsey Smith, | Mr. Fronk Ke Honors World Regional Geography November 23, 2015 Overpopulation in India Section One India’s population is growing rapidly, and “by 2050, China will no longer be the most populous country in the world (CNN).” Because of this rapid growth, India is experiencing many problems. One of these is that the growing population requires more resources, such as shelter, Fone “| resources (CNN).” There are not enough places for the people to live, which leads to the food, and clothing. In India, “more than 1.8 billion people could be competing for their country’s \ overcrowding of some areas. The amount of people needing space to live makes it harder to (, create and maintain large areas of farmland, which then makes producing enough food for the whole population harder and can cause shortages. Also, most of the population is illiterate due to inadequate education systems. There have also been large outbreaks of disease because of poor sanitation and healthcare. India is struggling to control its population growth. Even though it is using many different campaigns to ensure that families are smaller, most Indian families are still very large and growing, Most families in India “have an average of five children (CNN).” The poorer families in India rely on their many children as a source of income, so trying to stop their families from growing is not very effective. Also, due to inadequate healthcare, India has a verySmith 2 high infant mortality rate. This also causes families to have more children to make sure that at least a few of them will reach adulthood. Section Two This news article relates to class because we talked about the problems India is having due to a growing population. We leamed that because of the growing population, there are Mt \y enough resources to go around, such as clothing, shelter, and food. There are also not enough q Jobs, so much of the population lives in poverty. Also, we talked about how India is trying to solve its population problems using campaigns and its healthcare budget to ensure that families are smaller. Section Three ‘The amount of problems in India due to the growing population concerns me, especially the problems with healthcare, such as how high the infant mortality rate is and how quickly diseases spread. If I was able to, I would improve healthcare and education in India, which ‘would then allow more people to be aware of the diseases that spread through their country.
