2. I decided to keep this source because it focuses on the unique group of
people who advocated against the war without conventional protest but rather by
informing the public of the evils of war. The Vietnam Veterans Against the War was
a group of retired GI's who after having served in Vietnam, turned to sponsoring
events that rallied against the war. I want Michael to be a part of this effort which is
why I decided to keep this source.

1960s. It portrays daily life as well important moments in history. Each photograph is followed
by a brief description of each image and what it contained, as well as what year it was from.
A. Google Scholar: New York and 1960s
Currency: The gallery does not specify when it was published. In this case
however, that isnt a big issue because the gallery focuses solely on photos taken during
the time period making this source a collection of genuine primary sources.
Relevance: This source gives me a really good look at what life was like in New
York City during all of the 1960s which is good because my character moves there during that
time.
Authority: The source is the New York Daily News which is reliable in the sense
that they were the ones who took the photographs. They were already a well established
newspaper company during this time which again adds to their credibility.
Accuracy: The pictures come from stories published during the 60s era. While
the newspaper itself tends to be left leaning none of the actual stories were actually included, just
the pictures and a brief summary of what was contained in the image. For this reason I think the
photographs are a good insight into what life was like in the 1960s.
Purpose: The reason this source exists is to inform. It was created in order to
showcase the papers history and presence during a time of revolt and change in America. They

wanted to prove to today's public that the New York Daily News has always been reporting on
the important issues and the photographs are a testament to that.
D. This material gives me a good overview as to what life was like in New York during
the 1960s. This is important to my story because my main character Michael Sterling moves
there in 1968. As I was writing I realized that aside from Woodstock I didnt know much about
what life was like in that exact location during that time and this gallery really gave me a better
view of the everyday.

might have as a result of their participation in the war.

have as a result of their exposure to harmful chemicals and extremely loud sounds that occurred
during the war.
Authority: This information was found in the VA directory which is run by the
Federal government.
Accuracy: This information is provided by the VA so I deemed it a very credible
source.
Purpose: This information exists to provide veterans with the help that they need
after possible exposure to toxic chemicals such as Agent Orange which was a defoliant used to
strip the jungle of plant life, but that was also extremely toxic to humans.
D. My main character is a doctor in the Vietnam war and as I decided to get more in
detail to the problems he faced I realized I didnt know much about the specific illnesses that
soldiers suffered from. One thing that this website showed me were the extremely harmful side
effects on the human body brought on as a result to Agent Orange exposure.

2. I decided to keep this source because it gives such a good overview of the entire era. It
breaks down the war as well as the anti war effort taking place back home. It also follows an
accurate timeline which make it a good reference point to look back on when my dates and
events become jumbled in my head which happens more than Id like to admit.

magazine article about the last days of the war. This particular issue was published shortly after
the war ended. It also gives a modern take on these same reason as well as a look at the time it
took to fully withdraw the troops from the area.
Relevance: This article gives me a better look about how young Americans felt
during the last days of the war and the protests they organized to let their voices be heard.

the homefront had for advocating against the war which I will include in my story.

2.This article describes the effect of the Tet offensive on the morale and strategy of the American
military. It states that after the Tet offensive the Americans were fighting at increasingly
defensive pace rather than taking the offensive. It states that after the Tet offensive many saw the
Vietnam War as a lost cause with no visible end in sight for either side.
A. Google: Tet Offensive
Currency: This article was published in 2009 which makes it somewhat of a
seasoned article but nonetheless is contains good informations regarding one of the
biggest offenses the American military has ever faced.
Relevance: The Tet offensive was not only a major turning point in the war but
also a huge wake up call to Americans on the homefront. For this reason I decided it was a good
idea to include it in my story.
Authority: This article was published on U.S. News & World Report.
Accuracy: U.S. News & World Report is a widely trusted and well established
news source that publishes articles based on well researched evidence.
Purpose: This article was meant to inform the reader about a particular turning
point in the Vietnam War (Conflict).
D. I found this article very useful because it provided a good turning point to include in
my story. In it, the character barely misses the offensive as he leaves Vietnam a couples days
before it all takes place.
