Starting today, the AHS Culinary Program will begin composting food scraps from the culinary kitchen. This effort will reduce the cost and environmental impact of putting biodegradable materials into landfills and garbage disposals. On the last week of April, an AGS student representative will train a culinary student.

Starting today, the AHS Culinary Program will begin composting food scraps from the culinary kitchen. This effort will reduce the cost and environmental impact of putting biodegradable materials into landfills and garbage disposals. A designated compost bin is located in the culinary kitchen. A sign is posted above or near the bin so students will know which food scrap items can be composted and which food scrap items cannot be composted. On each Wednesday and Friday during the month of April, an AGS student representative will come by the culinary kitchen at the end of the day, pick up the compost materials, and deliver the compost to the AHS garden. The AGS student representative will take the compost and add and rake it into the garden compost station. The goal of this project is for the AHS Culinary Program to work with the established AHS Garden Club composting program. On the last week of April, an AGS student representative will train a culinary student. Beginning, May 1, 2014, the culinary kitchen students will assume the role of taking the compost to the AHS garden compost station, adding and raking the compost material into the compost station, and continuing to coordinate with the AHS Garden Club. We look forward to launching this new exciting project with you. AGS Students: Sarah Ballard, Will Ezell, Laurel Fowler and Elena Hubener
