Outcomes:
Specific
Learning
Outcomes:

STS K3: Investigate and analyze the properties of materials used in structures

devise and use methods of testing the strength and flexibility of materials
used in a structure (e.g., measure deformation under load)
compare structural properties of different materials, including natural
materials and synthetics
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Students will:
1. Pay attention to the teacher and lesson
2. Respect themselves, each other and their teacher
3. Learn about the different properties of materials
4. Think about the different materials we have around us

ces:

Teacher will pay attention to who is listening and participating

What are the most common materials that we use in structures?
What are the differences and similarities between these
materials?
What the applications of these materials?

Students who are visual, auditory and read/write will all benefit
from this lab as it incorporates all of these things

Learning Activity
#2

Powerpoint and marshmallows

Students will be given the vocabulary for the class with
associated pictures
Students who are more visual and auditory can see the picture
and recognize the materials as we point to them. Students who
are more read/write will also see the words associated with the
concepts
Comprehension and Application questions from worksheet
Students will practice the concepts of deformation and
flexibility with marshmallows
