Keyboarding Core Curriculum

Grade Level Expectations:


Kindergarten
Develop skills in gross and fine motor movement.
Develop and use skills to communicate ideas, information, and
feelings.
Explore a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing.

First Grade
Develop skills in gross and fine motor movement.
Develop and use skills to communicate ideas, information, and
feelings.
Use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing
(using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate
with others.
Demonstrate sufficient command of home-row.

Second Grade
Develop skills in gross and fine motor movement.
Develop and use skills to communicate ideas, information, and
feelings.
Use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing
(using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate
with others.
Demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a
minimum of one paragraph in a single sitting.

Third Grade
Key at a minimum speed of 15 words per minute (WPM) on at
least three 30-second timings.
Key at 4 or fewer errors on 30-second timings.
Key without using the backspace/delete key on timings.
Use technology to produce and publish writing (using
keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with
others.
Demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a
minimum of a half page in a single sitting.

Fourth Grade

least three 30-second timings.
Key at 3 or fewer errors on 30-second timings.
Key without using the backspace/delete key on timings.
Use technology to produce and publish writing (using
keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with
others.
Demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a
minimum of one page in a single sitting.

Fifth Grade
Key at a minimum speed of 25 words per minute (WPM) on at
least three one-minute timings.
Key at 2 or fewer errors on one-minute timings.
Key without using the backspace/delete key on timings.
Use technology to produce and publish writing (using
keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with
others.
Demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a
minimum of one two pages in a single sitting.

Hi!

Your student has been taking 1 minute timed typing tests throughout the
year and I wanted to let you see their progress. The benchmark score for fifth
grade is 25 words per minute with 2 or fewer errors, so this was our goal.
Students can practice typing on a variety of free typing games online, and also by
simply practicing typing any text into a Word document.
