Sophomores Laura Huynh and Neeti

Swami remember learning about different
countries, having fun doing various
activities, and eating cultural foods from
faraway places in a club at their middle
school and they didnt want it to end.
The two sophomores brought the United
Nations club and after only one meeting,
they can tell its going to be just as fun as
they remember it.
In the beginning, me and a friend had
been involved in a United Nations club
in middle school where we would talk
about a certain country, bring food, play

So we were talking about how much fun
it would be if we did that in high school.
We went to talk to our AP World History
teacher about starting the club. We
wanted to bring that experience to high
school.
Swami and Huynh say that they have
enjoyed the club. Together with club
sponsor and history teacher Jeff Thomas,
they started gathering once a month on
Wednesdays.
The club started on January 26 and 30,
people have signed up so far, Huynh said.

We celebrated Brazil and we had a small

presentation where we ate some Brazilian
food, then went outside to play soccer.
The country we choose to celebrate every
month is voted on.
According to Swami and Huyny, those
who have become involved in the club
this year are thoroughly enjoying it.
Everyone seemed really excited to
contribute to the club and that is really
what one of the goals of the club is,
Swami said. There is no real leader of
the club because everyone gets a duty like
bringing food or creating a presentation.

The club is always planning a meeting,

focusing on a different country each time
they have a meetingevery month. Both
Swami and Huyny are always looking for
people to join and participate. The United
Nations club meets on a Wednesday every
month in room C209. The date of the
next meeting is voted on at the previous
meeting.
We want our club to grow and we
want to be able to get our clubs name
out there, Swami said. If we get more
members, we can do larger activities and
even participate in school events.
