Criteria 1: Learners Use Reflections to Improve Learning

In all year groups, learners use reflections as a way to improve learning in a variety of ways.
Learners use self-assessments and peer evaluations to create an environment where
improvements are a natural step in the learning process. Progress is recorded with dates
and is assessed again to improve learning.

Year 1
Self-Assessment Skills rubrics
Learners self-assess their skills against the rubric. The students sticker is in red and the
teachers sticker is in purple. Children and teachers discuss what to practise in order to
improve.

Year 2
Improving Artwork
In art, students reflected on four ways to improve their artwork for Art skill 1.3 be able to
suggest ways to improve your art. They wrote their ideas and then made revisions to their
artwork during our unit: Seeing the Light.

Year 3
Learners Self Evaluation Forms
At the end of Term 1, all Year 3 learners filled out a self-evaluation form. This is a reflection
page in which they articulated their learning in Maths, Literacy and IPC. After each
articulation, they thoughtfully made comments on how they can improve their learning in
each areas. They also reflected on which personal goals and behavioural choices they
wanted to develop personally.

Year 4
Peer

Reflections with Improving Learning Emphasis

Learners reflected on personal goals in relation to a peers learning goals and learning
choices. The reflection includes advice on how to make improvements.

Seniors
Interpreting Globes
During the Time Tunnel unit, Seniors rotated through geography activities to practise the skill
of interpreting globes and maps at a variety of scales. The learners were in partners and
assessed each other after each activity, using the AFL rubric with verbal feedback included.
Learners then had a clear idea of the areas in their learning that needed improvement in
order to meet their target level.

PE
Fitness Testing
Fitness Testings are held three times a year. After the first testing is done, learners can
identify and reflect on areas they can improve. After the second fitness testing session, they
can reflect and evaluate on their past two performances. Teachers discuss with learners why
testing is done, why these specific tests are done and what these tests measure.

Learning Support
Knowledge Test Reflections
A learning support learner reflected on a knowledge test (as shown in orange notes). Her
goal was to understand the impact of thoughtfulness on learning. She used thoughtfulness
to then make changes and thus improve her learning (as shown on blue sticky notes).
