Workflow

Diagram Job Aid

To create a workflow diagram, follow these steps. If you are following a workflow
diagram, you should refer to your workflow diagram for instructions.
1. Determine how you will distinguish each type of box (person, question, task,
resolution). This can be done with colors, shapes, or some other visual
indicator.
2. Determine who is involved in the workflow diagram. Include anyone who is
following the diagram, and anyone affected by it. Include the parties involved
at the top of your diagram using the person indicator from step 1.
3. Determine the questions to be asked when working through the workflow
diagram. Include the initial question and all subsequent questions in the
order they would be asked using the question indicator from step 1.
Remember to put yes and no lines where appropriate. And to put the
arrows on the lines to show in which direction the reader should be going
4. Determine the tasks to be done based on the answers to the questions.
Include these in their appropriate locations so that they flow in the steps
they should be done in with the task indicator from step 1. Remember to put
the arrows on the lines to show in which direction the reader should be
going.
5. Determine where the reader will have completed the work, and what the
solution is. Complete your workflow diagram by including an arrow at the
end to the solution box using the solution indicator from step 1.
