TheIndustrialRevolution&NewImperialism

Theindustrialrevolutionwasknownasaperiodinwhichthepeoplewerebeginningtofindtoa
newlifestylethatwasbecomingurbanized.Byurbanizingitmeantthattherearepeoplenow
movingintothecitiesandsuburbsduetoabetterlifewhichcouldincludemodernizingand
industrializing.Thisurbanizationaffectednotonlythepeoplebutthecities.Thepeoplebeganto
seechangesinthewaytheyworkedandtheirlivingconditions.Therevolutionhaditspositive
effectsandnegativeeffectstoeveryplacethatbegantoindustrialize.Thismovementleadnot
onlyurbanizationbutglobalcompetitionbetweencountriesallovertheworld.whichsoonlead
toanageofnewimperialism.Thisimperialismwasknownasapolicyinwhichanationseeked
todominateothercountriespolitically,economicallyandsocially.TheIndustrialRevolution
wasatimeonwhichtechnologyprogressed,citiesbegantourbanizeandglobalcompetition
whichwouldputmanynationsintoseekingpowertobecomingthegreater.

Therevolutionbeganwithanewwayoftextile.Thetextileindustrybegantorisearoundthe
1700sinwhichfactorieswerebuiltandmachineswerecreatedtohelptheproductionandmake
everythingrunfaster.Beforethecreationofthemachinespeopledidhumanlaboroftenslavery

wasusedforthis,

everyonecouldworkattheirownpaceduetothefactthattheyworkedontheirownland.With
therevolutionandnewopportunitypeoplemovedtocitiestoworkinthefactorywithwork
hoursandnotthethesamebenefitsthanworkingintheirownpropertyTherevolutionbegan
withJamesWattfirstinventionofthesteamenginewhichthenleadtotheproductionofthe
cottonginandothermachinessuchasthesteamboat,spinningjenny,cottongin,flyingshuttle,
waterpoweredloomandspinningmule.Aftertheseinventionsotherpeoplebegantoimprove
themtomakethemmorecapableofbeingtoworkharderandfasterAlsothroughoutthewhole
revolutionpeoplebegantomakemoremachinesandtoimprovemachinestohelptheirown
urbanization.Withthisrevolutionofthetextileindustry,countriesbegantowanttohavethe
improvementsinthemachinesintheirnationortohavesomeoneintheirplacetocreatea
machineduetothefactthatcompetitionbetweennationswasstartingtorise.Thiscompetition
iswhatmadethenewimperialismbeginandoneofthekeypointstohowtheglobalcompetition
started.

Theindustrialrevolutionwasknownasatimeinwhichthepeoplebegantoreachmore
intomovingintothecities.Thiswasfurtherknownasurbanization.

Peoplewantedtomovieon
becausetheyknewthattherewasmoreopportunitiesinthecitysthenoutinthefarmlands.The
livingconditionswerebetterinsuchawaythattherewasmorejobopportunitiesforpeopleand
therewasachanceofhavingabetterhome.Aspeoplebegantomoveintothecitiesmorejobs
becameavailablewhichthengavetheproductionsofmoregoods.Whenurbanizingtechnology

becamemoreimproved.Inthisgrowingofsocietytherewasalwaysnegativesandpositivesto
thegrowthofthesuburbs.Withhavingcloserhomesthatpeoplebegantogetcatchdiseasesthat
wouldsometimessentencethemtodeath.

thisurbanizationbeganpeoplejustwantedtohavethebestintheircitieswhetheritwasclothing,
abetterproductionofgoodsortechnologyadvances..Thiswasanotherprogressiontothenew
imperialism.Thisgavethepeoplewanttohavethebestfortheircitieswhichbegantheglobal
competition.

Intheindustrialrevolutiontherewasknowntohavemuchglobalcompetition.Thisglobal
competitionwasknownwhenthecountriesfightorbelieveinbeingthebestoutofalltheother
nations.Whenthinkingaboutcompetitionthenation'sseekedtobethebestineverything.This
includedhavingtheprogressionoftechnology,higherqualityclothing,moresuitablehomes,and
thecreationofmorejobs.Throughtherevolutionallcountriesbegantourbanizeslowlyandinan
order.Britainwasalwaysknowntobetheleaderofeverythingintherevolution.AfterBritain
gainedhavingthebetterwaswhenothercountrieslikebelgium,France,UnitedStates,Germany,
andJapanbegantoadapttowhatBritain.Globalcompetitionisoneofthemajorfactorsin
whichwecametonewimperialism.Eachnationseekedtobethebetterbecauseitwouldleadto
advantagessuchashavingpowerandinfluenceamongtherestofthecountriesandhavebetter
economics.Globalcompetitionnotonlymeanttohaveyournationinthegreaterbuttohaveyou
beabletodominateothercountries.ForexampleBritainbegantocolonizeonAfricaandmuch
latertherestofthecountriesbegantowanttoseeklandinAfrica.Thiscompetitionbetween

countriesiswhatleadthemtobelievingthepolicythatthenewimperialismhadcreated.

urbanize,havetheabilitytogetimprovedintechnologywithalsotheabilitytohavecountrys
competewitheachotherwhichsoonleadthemtobelievinginapolicyinwhichacountryseeks
todominatetherestandalsoknownasnewimperialism.Theevolutionofanewtextileindustry
wasabletobringanewwayofworkingandanewproductionsystem.Theproductionofgoods
withtheusageofthemachineswasabletobringpeopletomovetothecities.Thissoonleadto
theurbanizationofthecityswhichmeantthattheirwasmorejobopportunities,betteror
sometimesworstlivingconditionsbutitalsogavethepeoplepositiveseffectslikehavinghope
intheirnations.Astheurbanizationcontinuedsodidthecompetitionbegintogrow.This
competitionwantsthenationtohavethebestgoods,technology,andtobeabletocontrolother
landsatthesametime.Theindustrialrevolutionbroughttheworldtohaveeffectssuchas
shiftingworldpowerwithariseofglobalinequalitywhilestructuringanewsociety.The
revolutionseffectsiswhatboughtnewimperialismbecauseofhowmuchrisinginequalitywas
happening.Ifwecometothinkaboutwhathappenedintheindustrialrevolutionwewouldhave
neverbeenabletocomeintotheageofnewimperialism.
