ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
During my first field experience I have shown thorough to advanced development in the Professional
Competencies 11, 9, 2, and 1. I had many opportunities to reflect on the competencies and on what I
observed at my host school, through discussions with fellow student teachers and individually through
journaling. I was able to understand the culture and community of the school and see how the school
met the needs of the students. I cooperated with staff, teachers, and students on a daily basis while
observing, helping with the homework program, and participating in school events. I was able to clearly
and effectively communicate with students, staff, teachers, and my peers. Finally, I was able to adapt to
the culture of the school and reflect on the influence that my own background has had on my personal
and professional identity.
I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
I feel that I need to improve my skills in competency 12 (to demonstrate ethical and responsible
professional behavior in the performance of my duties). As this was an observational experience I did
not get to practice classroom management. This is something that I will be able to practice on future
field experiences, as well as justifying the decisions I make in regards to the education of students. Also,
I will need to learn about the legal and regulatory framework governing the teaching profession in order
to demonstrate sound judgment in the future. I understand these features and the ways which I can work
on developing them.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:

I will seek out opportunities to work with children in a leadership position before my next field experience,
in order to develop my management skills. I can do this through my part time job at a daycare and summer
job at a summer camp.
I will educate myself about the legal and regulatory framework governing the teaching profession so that I
will be prepared to follow them while on teaching practice. I will do this through classes, and further
individual research as needed.
