GPA: stands for grade point average, a number representing the average of a students final
grades earned in college courses overtime
Junior: a student who has been in college for three years
Cap and gown: these items are worn during a college graduation ceremony
Sophomore: a student who has been college for two years
Transcript: a printed copy of a students record in college. It lists college courses and grades
received.
ACT/SAT: two standardized tests that are required for students to take who are applying to a
college or university.
Out of State: A college or university a student attends that is outside his or her hometown.
Dorm: a building that provides a place of residence for college students to sleep and eat.
Lecture Hall: a large room used for instruction at a college or university
Freshman: a student who has been college for one year
Application: the process in which individuals apply to gain entry into a college or university
Community College: a non-residential college offering courses for individuals living in a
particular area.
Minor: a students secondary area of study while they are in college.
Major: a college students area of study while they are in college
Professor: a name for a person who is a college or university teacher
Senior: A student who has been in college for four years
