round 1: OCCUPATION
OF RHINELAND 1936
According to Treaty of Versailles, Germany is
forbidden from stationing troops in the German
Rhineland.
Rhineland is part of Germany and Hitler wants it
back.
Britain and France are both rebuilding from WWI and
dont want to fight another war.

Results
March 7, 1936 Hitler remilitarizes Rhineland.
France and Britain do nothing.
France loses military buffer between Germany and
France.

Round #2: Austria 1938

Hitler wants all German speaking people to be part of
Germany.
Wants to reunify Germany and Austria (his homeland)

German speaking people in Austria say they want to

rejoin Germany.
Frances government has collapsed and they are in no
position to do anything.
Britain doesnt want another war & dont feel
threatened by the two countries joining.
British people dont care if Austria and Germany reunite.

Results
March 12, 1938 Austria becomes part of Germany.
Germany adds 7 million people to the Reich
Gains 100,000 men to its army
Gains valuable resources: steel and iron
Czechoslovakia is now surrounded on 3 sides by
Germany.
France and Britain do nothing.

Round 3:
Sudetenland 1938
Its been 6 months since Germany took over Austria.
Now Hitler says that they also want all the German
speaking people of Czechoslovakia (in the
Sudetenland) to join Germany.
Hitler promises that all he wants is the German people
in Czechoslovakia. He promises hell take nothing
else.
The German people in the Sudetenland want to join
Germany too.
Britain and France dont want to fight another war.

Results
September 29, 1938 Germany gains Sudetenland
3 million ethnic Germans join Germany

Germany gains almost all of Czechoslovakia's

industrial power.
66% of its coal
70% of its iron, steel, electricity

British PM claims that they have achieved Peace in our

Time!

Round 4:
Czechoslovakia 1939
Its been 6 months since Germany gained the
Sudetenland.
Germany declares that Czechoslovakia is a threat to
Germany and that it still has German speaking citizens
under its control.
Germany declares it wants all of the German speaking
citizens to be part of Germany.
Czechoslovakias leader is weak, sick, and intimidated
by Hitler.

Results
Hitler invades Czechoslovakia in March 1939.
Gains all the territory, resources, and people.
British PM is shocked that Hitler broke the treaty.
Makes pact with Poland to defend it against Hitler.

Round 5: Poland 1939

Hitler wants more living space Lebensraum for the
German people.
Hitler stages fake attacks on Germany by Nazi soldiers
disguised as Polish soldiers.
Claims Germany is under attack by Poland.

Britain has promised to protect Poland from an attack

by Hitler.

Results
Germany invades Poland on September 1, 1939.
Germany and Russia take over Poland and split it
between them.
Britain and France declare war on Germany.
WWII begins!
