An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics


Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report
on the provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behaviour. Are they already able to manage their own behaviour?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.

Date of Visit: January 11, 2016

As I observed, some students are slow learners and they need more
motivation. Their ages ranges from 15-17 years old. From what I see there are 14
boys and 20 girls but the teacher said that this section is composed of 50 students.
Most of the boys are seated at the back and they are the naughty and noisy. They
will behave if the teacher loud her voice. As Ive said there are some students who
are slow learners so that the teacher guide them in their activities, and the other can
work independently but noisy. Their attention is not focus on the teacher because
their seatmate talks to them but sometimes if they want the lesson they listen to
their teacher.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT


Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom
management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can
verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the
table that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching
aids, books, students belongings, supplies, etc.)
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher
do?
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviours? (behaviour
strategies)

Observation notes:
The teachers table is not available so that the teacher get two chairs for her, the
first chair is for her to seat and the other one is for her visuals aids. In their classroom
rules students are participated in making the rules to have a good relationship. Their daily
routines starts with the greeting and after that checking the room if it is cleaned. The
seating arrangement, l the girls are separated to the boys to less the misbehaviour. The
noise is come from outside the classroom because of the under construction building and
it take away the attention of the students to listen to their teacher. And in the
reinforcement of positive behaviour the teacher says okay to the student.

It becomes a good habit and they are responsible on what they are doing. And they
become ready for the next year of their schooling. They know what to do and they
didnt need to be commanded. They can stand on their own.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
The teacher should ask if his/her rules are cleared and give the students the rights
to add some more rules to have a good relationship in the classroom. When it
comes on routines teacher should have a very smooth rule to have a peaceful day.
3. Which behaviour strategies were effective in managing the behaviour of the
learners?

effective?
Reinforcement, because reinforcement the students on what they are doing even if
it is positive or negative. In reinforcing a positive behaviour students will be more
motivated to study while in reinforcing a negative behaviour students they will
change because they learn on their mistakes.

Your Reflections
1. Improve yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level
do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this
level?
Why?
In Grade 7, because their minds is somehow innocent. I will build their confidence
and have an energetic routines and procedures that will fit on their level. Their
excitement in my class will not lose.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose
these
rules?
- Before I entered the room it should be clean and the chairs are organized.
-If Im discussing the lesson I dont want to hear noise if it is a nonsense.
-Make sure before I entered the room everyone is inside the classroom.
-In every activity theres a group leader to be assign.
*To have a manageable class and less misbehaviour. To let my students be
responsible in everything that they do and be discipline.
3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?
Yes, because they are the one who follow the rules and have a better relationship if
you settle your rules with your students.
