The Analysis: The analysis part addresses the lessons effectiveness to what extent did the

students meet the objectives stated in your lesson plan and how do you know? Make a claim
about student learning and support it with evidence that you gathered from the lesson.
General questions to consider in your analysis:
1. To what extend did the students learn what was intended? How do you know? As part of
your answer, please indicate:
a. In what ways were your teaching methods effective? How do you know?
- The students learned how to identify the main idea of an article and its specific
sections. They learned the different variations of planets, moons, galaxies, the sun,
and the solar system. They are able to identify and describe each variation of the
solar system. I know this because of the sophistication throughout the class
discussion as well as assessing the students graphic organizers.
2. Identify an individual or group of students who had difficulty in todays lesson. How do you
account for this performance? How will you help this (these) student(s) achieve the learning
objectives?
- The only students that had trouble with the lesson were paired in a group of 3 so that they
had 2 group members to help them focus and search for the correct answer. I was able to
account for their performance by verbally having the students explain their work. The
students that struggled have a difficult time keeping up with the pace of assignments which
decreases the amount of work that is on their graphic organizers. By having the students use
text evidence in the article and verbally explaining their thinking, they are still able to grasp
the same information as the remainder of the class without feeling like they are behind. This
helps students to still be able to work with partners with the exception of not having to write
every detail that their partner may include, but rather be able to put their thinking and
knowledge into words.
3. Identify an individual or group of students who did especially well in this lesson today. How
do you account for this performance?
- The majority of the students excelled in this lesson today. There was a high level of energy
throughout the room when introduced to the topic and the students were eager to learn more
about the topic. I was able to account for their success throughout the evaluation of their
individual graphic organizer and the participation level in the class discussion.
4. Based on what happened in this lesson, what are the next steps? What do you plan to teach
next to this class? Be sure to explain how you will use information from this evaluation in
future lesson planning.
- The next lesson that I am teaching to the class will resolve the debate from the lesson that I
taught. The students were debating over whether Pluto should or should not be considered a
planet. The next lesson compares different articles from two different stand points on the
issue that the students will have to analyze and choose a side on. The information from the
lesson that I taught will be able to become valid arguments for different sides of the debate. I
can use this information in evaluating my future lesson plans by remembering which students
work best with which other students and how to differentiate the lesson for the various needs
in the classroom.
