Section 2: APPROACH TO RESEARCH

What is your research problem statement? (Because
research problem statements can evolve throughout the process,
this statement should fit the most current version of your
project.)

_____/5

The problem is most girls cannot protect themselves from unwanted

advances because our society fails to educate them properly.
Another problem is boys can do whatever they want
without consequences.
What are your research question(s)? (Because research
question can evolve throughout the process, this statement
should fit the most current version of your project.)

_____/5

1. How are boys perceptions of girls and sexuality formed?

2. Why do girls like the boys they do?

3. Why do boys like the girls they do?

4. Why are boys assholes?
5. How do boys perceptions of women affect women's
perceptions of themselves?
Describe the Research Method You Used, or Desc
be Your Action Project. Give a detailed report of how and why
you collected data in the way you did, or why and how you did
the action project that you did. Attach any research instrument
you used (survey, interview questions, etc.), or any materials you
generated for your action project. Describe any limitations of
your research method or action project.

_____/10

For this round of research, we originally did a sidewalk

science project. We chose this because it was able to
us insight on the mindsets of girls when it comes to
choosing what kind of boys they will date, whether it is
based on looks or the way they treat the girl. Sidewalk
Science was a good choice because it made us go out
and actually work for the results we needed. We had to
ask girls interrupt their lunch time, to do something for
people they dont even know. It was interesting,
though, because we got to hear their original comments
and how they might have changed after they read the
bios. Therefore, information gathered from discussion
groups is often more varied because they cant be
influenced by other peoples answers as they might
have been in a discussion group. It was a quick way to
get honest answers. Another advantage of using
Sidewalk Science, is that it provided in-depth
information from a number of individuals
simultaneously, making it a time effective method of
gathering data. We had a total of 100 responses from
girls from both lunch shifts. Some girls read and
responded together so their answers might have been
influenced by each others a bit, furthering altering our
research.

your action project.

Report Findings or Outcomes. THIS SECTION SHOULD BE
APPROX. 3-4 DEVELOPED PARAGRAPHS. Explain your most
significant findings from this round of data collection, or report
the outcomes of your action project. In other words, what story
does your research or action project tell? Make 2-4 claims and
back each claim up with specific data you collected. Use quotes
and or paraphrases from other sources to back up your claims.
(Dont forget to cite sources).
Despite a guys true characteristics, girls will still choose
the good-looking jerk over the decent-looking sweetheart.
For example, some girls either, looked at the pictures and chose
their answer or they read what they wanted to read about the
guy. One girl said that she chose the jerk because he is
educational, when his bio stated that he does not even go to
class. A few girls said they could change the jerk and make him a
better person, not even caring that contestant was the better
person. They felt that because contestant 1, the jerk, was cute, it
didnt matter if he treated her like scum.

Looks play a major part in choosing a partner. When asked,

What makes a girl beautiful, males responded with all physical
traits. Also, when told to describe their dream girl, all of the
responses were physical. Now girls on the other hand, claim they
look at whats on the inside. When doing sidewalk science, a girl
said Now you know if a ugly boy was to come up to you, you
would blow him down! So dont even play like you would choose
that boy because he has a nice bio. Its crazy how true this is.
We do not walk around with bios on our chest. Meaning we do not
know what we are getting into until we actually are in it. Boys and
girls claim they want this type of person, but when the person
present themselves, they turn the person down.

Section 4: REFLECTION & NEXT STEPS

Reflect on Progress. What significant things have you learned

through this process thus far? What has been most surprising,
rewarding, or difficult about this process? How have you involved
your mentor?

_______/

This process has really been stressful. Right now, a lot

of things are happening. Danni is a designer and a
producer in the fashion show, which is also an important
grade. Mia has a boat load of Adv. Math work to
complete and is just lazy! To top all of this, we have to
balance school, family and after school responsibilities.
Now, yes, this sounds like a lot of excuses but hey, you
asked us to be honest! Also, at this point we are getting
senioritis. May 17th, is not coming fast enough. We
have to realize that this is how college is going to be, so
we need to get it together or get out while we have a
chance. Sidewalk Science has been all 3: surprising,
rewarding and difficult. Surprising because majority of
the girls chose number two, when we thought they were
going choose number one. This is very significant
because we are smarter than we thought. Rewarding
because they actually took us serious and had amazing
feedback! Difficult because our project keeps on
changing, it was very confusing at times.
