When, Who, and Where was the religion founded?


-Founded In 622 A.D.
-By Muhammad the Prophet.
-Islam was started in what is now known as Saudi Arabia.

What is story of the religion?


-Muhammad stated that he had an angelic visitation, then
he dictated the Quran.
-They believe Allah is the one and only true god.

What is the religion's Holy Book?


-Quran- Intended to correct any of the errors in the New, and Old

Testament.
-There are 114 chapters, known as Surahs.
-They separated it into 30 equal parts, called juz'.

Where are the religions holy cities?


-Mecca- Kaba a mosque built for islamic prayer.
-Medina- Home of "The Prophet's Mosque."
-Jerusalem-The mosque of Al-Aqsa.
-"There are only three mosques to which you should embark on a journey:
the sacred mosque (Mecca, Saudi Arabia), this mosque of mine (Madinah,
Saudi Arabia), and the mosque of Al-Aqsa (Jerusalem)." (Muhammad)

Describe 3 major holy days?


Eid Al-Fitr: Festival of Breaking the Fast
As Muslims mark the end of the month,
they are reminded that Ramadan is a
time to reflect spiritually, build
communally, and aid those in need,
While Eid marks the end of Ramadan, it
marks a new beginning for each
individual a reason to celebrate and
express gratitude on this holiday.(Time.
com March 1st) It also marks the end of
the hajj.

Ramadan: Month of fasting


It is a month of fasting, prayer, giving, and
worship. It is the 9th month in the Islamic
calendar.
Al-Hijra: Islamic New Year
Its is the first day of Muharram and it is the
1st month in the islamic calendar. Its also
the most sacred month and Muslims are
not allowed to fight during this month.

What are the major beliefs and teachings?


They have the five central beliefs of Islam
The 5 central doctrines
1) the unity of God
2) angels were part of Gods creation
3) the belief in prophets
4) the belief in the scriptures
5) the final judgement

The 5 pillars of Islam


1) Al-Shahada (declaration of faith) they must
pronounce their faith to enter into Islam
2) Salat (prayer) prayer is central to Islam and
it is required for all Muslim adults to pray
after they hit puberty, they must kneel and
bow their heads
3) Zakat (charity) they are required to give a
portion of their savings
4) Sawm (fasting) they are required to fast
during the month of ramadan
5) Hajj (Pilgrimage) If it is possible for you, you
can make your way to Mecca which is the
holiest city at least once in your life.

What does the leadership structure look like?


There is no whole world leader or
priests. The imam is a prayer leader,
they have the most important role.

Where is this religion practiced?

Muslims mostly live in Asia and Pacific


region

How many estimated followers does it have today?


-Followers of Islam are called Muslims
- Islam religion quickly spread across the globe
and now claims more than 1.6 billion followers
- That makes them the second-largest religion
- It's the world's fastest growing religion

Is it monotheistic or polytheistic?
Monotheistic- belief in a single god

Islam religion is monotheistic, they believe in one


god, Allah.

Islam is sometimes referred to as pure


monotheistic

They believe that he had no partners or helpers

Allah is the only one worthy of worship

They believe Allah is the all-powerful creator of a


perfectly, ordered universe

Who Do the Muslims Worship?


-

Muslims worship one God and one God only. That God is
Allah.
Allah is the creator of all that is in the Earth and Heavens.
According to Islam, Allah is the True and only creator, and
only he deserves to be worshipped. Nothing else is worthy
of worship (Who do Muslims Worship?).
Worship of anything else, but Allah is considered an
unforgivable sin.
Muslims believe that Allah is able to do everything because
he is all-powerful. They also believe Allah is gracious,
merciful, forgiving, and perfectly just because it says so in
the Quran

What Do They Believe About the Afterlife?


-

Muslims believe in continued existence of the soul and a transformed


Physical existence after death. Islam teaches that there will be a day of
judgement when all humans will be divided between the eternal
destinations of Paradise and Hell (Islamic Beliefs about the Afterlife).

What are the major sects of Islam?


- The major sects are the Sunni and the Shia.
The Sunni are the majority of the practicers
and is considered the orthodox branch of
Islam.
- The two groups split apart after the death of
Prophet Muhammed. They disagreed on who
should be the new leader.
- Another sect of Islam is Sufi, which believes
you can find God within yourself.

How is Islam Connected to Judaism and Christianity?


- They share a common belief of one God.
- They all have sacred history, prophets,
divine revelation, angels, and Satan.
- They all also stress moral
responsibility/accountability, Judgment Day,
and eternal reward/punishment.
- All three faiths respect each other and what
they believe, but muslims believe that Islam is
Superior to Judaism and Christianity.
- They all believe in Jesus, but in different ways.
