Rena Wren Acoustic Goddess

By Tom Roeck

What inspires Rena Wren to write and perform the music she does? Well in her
own words mostly she is here for good friends and good music. To this Acoustic
Goddess writing and performing is her first best destiny, but she is oh so business
savvy too. Running her own merchandise and C.D. distribution network at
www.renawren.com she and spouse Rodgey Roach co-founded the Spa City
Songwriter Showcase in Hot Springs, Arkansas in August 2008. The showcase is
held once monthly, usually on a Saturday night, at The Poet's Loft. They also
produce and host concerts, including house concerts, at any event-appropriate
venue according to the artist's needs..
Rena has been singing, playing and writing since age 10 and performing in live
bands and theater since age 14. Her diverse influences include Merle Haggard,
Johnny Cash, Indigo Girls, Cyndi Lauper, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Ella
Fitzgerald, Dr. Hook, Billy Idol, Robert Plant, and Sting to name a few. Her musical
interests include Rock, Bluegrass, Americana, Alternative, Country, Blues, Jazz,
Country, Indie, Folk, and Musical Theater.
Wren's unusually eclectic music background and organic approach to song
writing from her "Soul's Earth", as she puts it. She adds depth, warmth,
spontaneity and color to her dynamic repertoire of songs and her fans say she has
something for everyone. I personally like her song “Breakdown” a whole lot and her
“Sweet Mystery” Compact disc is really great through and through. Break Down"
was recently reviewed by Debora Nortman, Vice President of API Music
International, Inc. and Director of International Relations A-B-A-C-A
Entertainment Group, who felt that Rena's voice and music were pleasant and
enjoyable and found her lyrics interesting and thought provoking. In Debora's
words and I quote: " Rena Wren is a wonderful, interesting, up-and-coming
singer/songwriter!"
Since assembling the new band, Rena likes call the style evolving folk-pop that
holds hands on the left with belting rock and on the right with smooth alternative
funk. Her band members include husband Rodgey Roach on bass & vocals, Rodney
Roach on guitar & vocals, Matt Stone on guitar, dobro, banjo & mandolin, Joel
Frye on drums, and Laura Lynn on accompanying vocals.
She recorded “Sweet Mystery” in Little Rock with Jason Tedford and Wolfman
Studios and The CD was released in 2009. The Artists Reverb Nation profile has
been thoroughly perused and her Breakdown song has been holding the number one
over all spot on the local charts for more than 6 months.
Wren has performed at many venues in Little Rock such as: The Living Room,
The Weekend Theatre, Easy Street Piano Bar Cabaret Room, Markham Street
Grille, Julie's Restaurant, Starving Artist Café, Afrodesia Studio, The Public
Theater, The Whitewater Tavern, Sticky Fingerz, The Parrot Beach Cafe, and The
Arts Scene to name a few. She has also performed in many venues in her home town
of Hot Springs, and many festivals and other venues in Alabama, Florida,
Tennessee, North and South Carolina, and Oklahoma.
Rena has been on many local radio shows on such stations as: 88.3 KABF –

She also won The Jay Thomas Show "Homegrown Song Contest" with her song
"Red Dress" which recently received an excellent review from Michael Jay, writer
for Great Unknowns Presents, who said: "with some minor fine tuning this track
could easily fit perfectly on the country pop charts along side Taylor Swift and
Carrie Underwood"
