Thesis:
Governments actions contribute to societys change in attitude toward tobacco, but also,
peoples reaction toward this actions, their own experiences on tobacco consumption,
and experiences of those who surround them.
Primary research:
Throughout the decades the U.S Government has implemented different types of laws and
regulations that enrich their tobacco control over the different states in the country. These laws
are made to protect public health, and they do this by passing smoke-free air laws, which
prohibit smoking in public places and workplaces. This type of law is a perfect example of how
the governments actions can now have a direct effect on peoples change in attitude toward this
issue. They have now taken that freedom that you used to have in the past, of smoking in any
public place that you wanted. Now there are restricted areas, so anytime that you want to
smoke you need to be in a legal place, this means every smoker has less places to smoke,
which leads to a decrease cigarette consumption per person in the U.S. The government has
also increased tobacco excise taxes, which increase the purchase price of tobacco products."

once one family member has been diagnosed with cancer everything around the family
changes, and it can be affected in a positive or negative way, depending on how emotionally
stable family members are. They can either see life differently by not taking anything for granted
and enjoy every moment of their life or they can enter on depression and not see a sense of
living because they feel victimized. Peoples own experience and those who surround them is
highly related to the Governments effort to stabilize and help people who are affected or can be
affected by tobacco consumption.
It is important to know that lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer. Taking more lives than
breast, colon, prostate, and pancreatic cancer combined. In the US alone, 220,000 people will
be diagnosed and 160,000 will die of lung cancer, so it is an issue that needs to create more
awareness among individuals.
