Presidents Notes

GHCC Board Meeting, March 14, 2016.

This will be my last Presidents Notes and this was the last official regular
Board Meeting of the present administration. This will be the wind-up of my
third term as President. I will take this opportunity to again thank my present
Board and all the previous Boards who have served with me.
Our term ends on April 19th at the Annual Meeting when the new Board takes
over, headed by incoming president Rich Burns, who surprised us by his
presence at this meeting. The President elect indicated that he hoped as
many members who could, would attend the Annual meeting so that we
would be sure of having a quorum.( No business may be transacted without a
quorum, at the Annual Meeting).
The first discussion pertained to use of the Village Center Court. I had emailed the Operations Manager requesting a reply to several questions
including one on when, if ever, we would be able to use the VC court again. It
has not been available for many months. Also, when we might expect a
substitute for that Amenity, if no further use was intended. I received no
answer.
At this point Rich Burns spoke up and said he had the answer to that question
and that was that no further use of that amenity, as a croquet court was
intended. It was considered irreparable.
However, he had no answer to when we might expect a new second court.
Another fairly lengthy discussion regarding the Creekside Court took place.
The Courts were turned back to their original position on Friday afternoon.
However, according to those who had observed and/or played on the court,
following the turning, the wickets were completely out of position and
nowhere near the original relationships to the borders or to each other.
Following the meeting I had my first chance to observe the court and found
the positioning to be unacceptable for normal play. (Note; as of Wednesday,
March 16th, the wickets have been reset by members of the GHCC Grounds
and Equipment Team, under my direction, and are now pretty much Standard
and in proper position.)
I received a notice from Dylan Goodwin, who publishes our national
newsletter, Croquet News, that he would like to do a two page Profile of the
Grand Haven Croquet Club with nice pictures. I told him we could not meet
his short deadline for the Spring Issue . He offered the opportunity for the
Summer issue. I turned the correspondence over to the in-coming President.
I also received a call from John Currington who has built ( and is still building )
the new Private Courts at Ponte Vedra. They now have three courts open for
play. He mentioned the new Florida Yacht Club Croquet Club and suggested
more inter club play. He indicated potential participants would be willing to
pay the guest fee required by our CDD rules.

Our Treasurer asked me to remind everyone that it is yearly dues time again.
He would like to have the dues in by April 15 th even though membership is
good until May 1.
The Annual Dinner is still scheduled for May 7 th but details will be handled
and announced by the new administration.
Cassandra Gaisor, President,
Grand Haven Croquet Club.
