MEDAILLE COLLEGE Summary Statement and Letter of Recommendation Lome Prk Secondary Scho0) Sepember 3 October 2, 2015 Alley Park Secondary Shot Ostober 26 December 18, 2015 PREAMBLE | had the opportunity as the supervisor of Vincent Caneili to observe his teaching of English al the Secondary Schoo! level. Vincent brought to the role a degree of matuty and enthusiasm that enhanced his experiences considerably, He wes an extremely conscientious student teacher who was creative in providing interesting and thought provoking lessons forthe students. Vince was very composed and his confidence ‘developed significantly during his pruticum. As. result of his continuous growth Vinee had a very success teaching experience. PREPARATION aud PLANNING * Vincent leaned carly on that good planning and organization were key components toa successful lesson, He worked hard to prepare well ahend of time ‘and had his learning resources readily available. His plans addressed the various learning abilities ofthe students and included achievable expectations. His knowledge ofthe Ontario curriculum increased with experience and he incorporated this information into his daily plannin Vince developed the ability to chunk his lessons and pace them briskly to ‘maintain intrest and student focus, Vincent took care tobe innovative while preparing his lessons. He explored and introduced programs that allowed the students to utilize their technology and knowledge of sane. He successflly established appropriate objectives, questions and follow up activities. ‘TEACHING STRATEGIES Vincent created good balance between teacher directed instruction, student focused activity and individual teaching, While questioning the students he rolved as many as possible fo encourage active listening and challenged! them to be refletive. Vincent took advantage ofthe tech-saavy nature of his students and effectively employed various forms of technology to motivate and keep them engaged, = Seatwork was created to reinforce the concepts taught and Vincent continuously interacted with the stadents in a purposefl way in order to ensure that they were (on task and on track. = Vincent learned to dispense instructions in a clear and precise manner. Information presented tothe students was summarized and reinforced atthe conclusion ofeach lesson. MANAGEMENT and RAPPORT "Vincent displayed friendly and caring manner that resulted in a trusting and respect climate inthe classroom. AS his experience increased and his confidence grew he became more proficient in his classroom management, He set and maintained clear behavioural expectations for the students and developed effective cues to refocus student attention. * Vincent had a good sense of humour which he used appropriately to develop 3 positive rapport withthe students, Disruptive behaviour was dealt with subtly and promptly. SUMMARY Vincent isa very hard working teacher who strives to be better andl readily accepts advice. He would take the initiative to seek out suggestions on ways to improve that was ‘ultimately reflected in his lessons and in hs interactions with the students, He proved to bbe quite exible and able to work well in a collegial situation.
