Helping And Loving Others

St. Marys students are recognized for kind and
responsible actions that go above and beyond
expectations. Students receive a certificate and
it is displayed outside the school office. They
are rewarded at the end of the quarter with a
treat from Mrs. Mechelke & Mrs. Smiskey.

Respect Plan

Academic & Behavior Issues

St. Marys students are issued with respect plans
in the event that a school rule is broken.
Teachers, administrators, and parents use the
form to communicate and agree upon
consequences and a plan of action for student
improvement.

V.I.P
Each week, one student will be selected as 3rd grade
V.I.P.
During the week, the V.I.P. will sit at a special desk,
have lunch in the classroom, read a special letter
written by their parents, and share photos and items
with the class. An informative letter will be sent
home the week prior.

Birthdays
Students may celebrate their full or half birthday in
the classroom. Treats may be sent in for the
morning snack.
The birthday boy or girl will come home with a book of
friendly letters to read, written by their classmates. They
will also be given a math challenge book created by their
friends for the birthday boy or girl to complete and return.

Grading
Policy

All 3rd grade classwork will be collected

by the teacher. Some will be graded,
but the majority of work that is new or
practice will not be graded.
I use classwork and observations to
monitor what objectives students are
meeting and what skills need additional
support.

Any classwork that is graded may

be corrected by students in class
or as homework and returned for
half credit back the next school
day. This new score will be added
into the gradebook.

As we learn new concepts,

students will often correct their
own work through teacher
modeling, so they can get instant
feedback and make any
corrections immediately. I will
monitor and collect work to make
observations and use for future
lesson planning.

Grade Level Expectations

Through class work, teacher observations, and
multiple forms of assessment, I will determine if
a student needs interventions in reading and/or
math. If in-class modifications and supplemental
lessons are needed, I will reach out to parents to
share an individualized improvement plan. Our
pupil services director Pam Foegen may
administer a battery of assessments to
determine if special services are required.
