YOOK District ATTORNEY March 7, 2016 PRESS RELEASE (On March 7, 2016, Karl Holger Karlsen was arraigned in Calaveras County Superior ‘Court for the murder of his wife Christina A. Karlsen 25 years ago. The Hon. Judge John E. Martin (ret.) appointed an attomney to represent Karlsen. Karlsen did not enter a plea and the arraignment was continued to April 4, 2016. ‘The Calaveras County District Attomney’s Office filed charges against Karl Karlsen on “August 29, 2014, alleging he murdered his wife in Calaveras County on January 1, 1991. The case could not proceed however until Karlsen could be brought to California. The maximum punishment in this case is life without the possibility of parole. Karlsen is currently serving a sentence of 15 years to life for the 2008 murder of his son Levi Karlsen in New York. He therefore had to be extradited from prison in New York to California, a time consuming process, The Calaveras County District Attorney's Office worked closely with the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, and many other agencies, to accomplish Karlsen’s extradition to California, In accordance with the Rules of Professional Conduct binding on prosecutors, the Calaveras County District Attorney's Office will not be releasing any information on this case until it is concluded. 891 Mountain Ranch Road # San Andre: 2A 95249 © 209-754-6330 © Fax 209
