Your Laughter

Pablo Neruda, an award winning poet, still enlightens people with his poetry today. His
life began tragically, as his mother died shortly after giving birth. He was always interested in
poetry. "Your Laughter" is one of the most unique and beautiful poems ever written. Neruda
reveals his talent for writing through meaning and tone. Pablo Neruda's poem "Your "Laughter"
is about never wanting laughter to disappear and discloses the idea that there is nothing more
beautiful than the fragile tone of his lover' laughter.
The collection at the poetic devices gathered in Neruda's convey meaning, tone, and
theme. For example, Neruda uses personification when he says when your laughter enters
(Neruda 14). Laughter is given a characteristic they can't actually enter yet entering makes
laughter seem more powerful, therefore giving meaning. Personification shows her laughter is
greater than it actually is- it has more meaning. The simile "like a fresh sword" continues to
fulfill significance (25). He is saying that if he was dying her laughter would give him power,
like a sword. Through a simile Neruda is expressing how her love and laughter is extremely
important like a sword would be; this shows the reader near Neruda's love for laughter her and
the meaning of what he is saying. There are multiple refrains used one of which one is "laugh"
(23, 34, 36 and 38). Laugh, laugh, laugh is repeated again and again; it is an important part of the
poem because there can be so much meaning in one word. Saying something repeatedly helps to

establish and drive significance into one's head. Using poetic devices helps the reader compare
and understand the meaning of the poem.
The poem "laughter" by Pablo Neruda establishes theme using words and phrases. "Burst
forth enjoy" suggests a happy and joyful tone (7). This indicate joy and coming forth fully and
bursting not coming and small in small amounts. The tone is something that may make the reader
smile and not feel terrified or mournful. My love tells that the poem is joined with love and
not just the laughter (18). This poem sets a call me and tell him that expresses love. Also love
occurs as it is thought to be linked with joy. "My blood staining" indicates a negative and tragic
thing (21). In a way opposites are brought out to show a joyful theme more thoroughly. Neruda
indicates if his blood is evident her laughter would need to be present; there joyfulness and love
arise. The theme is brought up by words and phrases some of which bring out each other.
Nerudas interest in literature grew into a passion meanwhile receiving awards. He
continued to write then years later joined the communist party with his family. Pablo Neruda
died in 1993; he was most likely poisoned. The poem tells the reader the author is loving. He
loves laughter-this persons at least. "Your laughter" is a poem by Pablo Neruda that involves tone
and has a great meaning while telling the reader about his lover's laughter and says it is so
precious to him and so is her love.
